Insurance ripoff

Had a bingle on my big girl Ruby a few weeks back. Yeah, I dropped her at low speed. Took her into the shop to have the repairs quoted. The man said we like to replace rather than repair panels and I thought, "Good one!" The quote came up seven grand short of agreed value cover and the assessor rang me yesterday and told me they are going to write it off. I said "What?......it's covered for heaps more than the quote" His reply was that they would get ten grand for the wreck (???????....the damage is superficial!) and the balance is more than blah blah blah blah blah...................I told him I'm not losing that bike because you want to sell it to your mates!

The insurance company?.......................S******S.......................and I was told by that assessor that they are owned by Suncorp. If you want their name PM me and I'll pass it on but I thought I had better not get admin into trouble.

The result so far is that the man is requoting and including repainting of damaged panels rather than replacement. I think this is pretty poor conduct on behalf of what I thought was a reputable insurance company. If S******s management wish to discuss this with me they have my phone number.

I'd ask if it's a repairable writeoff and buy it back off them.

Get ya pay out, then buy back for the $10g mentioned., That mob would not insure me as I answered Yes when asked if I was an Enthusiast. I told them well the advert on TV says different.
Good Luck with the outcome. I hope it is what you want.

    1) Does your policy have a " 1st offer buy back" kinda deal ? ie , you get first offer on the "wreck" ?

    2) Would " Agreed value" buy you another SAME bike on the road registered in your name ? STAMP DUTY AND ALL THAT WANK INCLUDED ?

    3) If yes to both the above then take the money mate , and retain the " wreck" if you want

Usually in my experience you can't get them to pay out "agreed value" if you don't want the bike back.

I personally would not want a "repaired" panel and paint on a Harley in Australia, it will NEVER be as good as "factory paint"

Tin sets , Tank and front and rear guards can be bought easily on US eBay for any model , just takes a while and you may not get a huge choice of "color" sorry COLOUR haha..

    Hi,

What figures are applicable in this situation spook? Yeah they put way to many cars and bikes into the repairable write-off category insurance companies, rogue assessors most likely

If your contract is agreed value its agreed value

    Thanks

If it's insured for agreed value then you agreed to the value when you paid your premium...If it's replacement value then take the new bike but get all the extra's off the wreck before they take it...

    To Waynecraft

Maybe in the east mate. I've seen some very ordinary after market insurance repair jobs here in Perth

Harley factory paint has a good reputation worldwide , even when I was in the motor trade 20 years ago nearly

I had my own panel and paint shop for cars , but often repainted Z900's and other big Jappas for myself and mates

    To the OP

I had assumed ( like everyone else !!) we were referring to a Harley here , so I've no more to say on the matter !!

Retroman, the blokes on here who know me knew what bike it was, but I do appreciate all input.I have however nominated the panel repairman as he's worked for me in the past and his work is impeccable.

Its ashame that all the man sees is dollar signs and has no care for the history between the rider and his ride.

But that is the way things are nowdays. Everything is about making / saving a buck and on one cares about the consequences.

But, I'm going to look over my cover and double check all my mods are covered and to see if I have salvage rights.

Hope it goes your way Spook.

The thing I don't understand is how are they ripping you off??? It is insured for agreed value and that's what they want to give you...If they only wanted to give you half the agreed value I could understand why you would be upset...

Sorry to here the wing took a slide. I'd be curious to see pics as its hard to visualise a dollar amount.

Its a shame that insurance companies just run a mathmatical formala and don't factor in anything else.
