Gday all Im Sloth. I live in the snowy region in NSW and Im not far off buying my 1st Harley. Ive been saving for a bit and wanted to have between 15 and 20k in my pocket to get onto something pretty new. Been keeping an eye on Street bobs, Fat boys, Heritage softails and even some sporties. Thats my basic taste so long as they have ape hangers and forward controls. Dad had that set up on an old softail of his when I was a tacker and ive loved the look ever since. seems a comfy ride too from my couple of rides here n there. He had a sporty that i rode a bit in my 20s and as much as it was comfy, mates reckon i looked to big on it. 6ft and 105 ish kgs so far from a real big fella. lol
I commute 200ks a day round trip for work in the warm season\day light savings (esp after collecting a roo on my last gsxr. it fucking hurts coming off and magically appearing roos scare me now) and rack up about 30 odd thou a year on a bike without any real long trips away. So maybe sporties arent the go with the small tank.
I have good mates with hogs whov been putting the hard word on me to drop the sports bikes so I thought id get into some research. Ive always loved Harleys I just never sat still long enough to save the extra $$.
Ive learned about cam chain tensioner probs with twin cams esp 99 to 06 twins cams but havnt heard of any other significant issues. Ive trawled through the pages here and cant find much as a common prob but there is so much stuff on this forum i dont know if ill ever make it through it all.
Any info from those with experience about longevity and service stuff to keep an eye on would be very much appreciated, as ill be doing some big k's on it pretty quick. Ill hit 100 thou in a couple of years and spending double what i would on previous bikes so the missus is going to keep an eye on me. lol
Looking forward to meeting some of you guys and gaining some knowledge. But moreso I cant wait to get me a hog!
Cheers
Ian
Welcome
Welcome mate, your quote is very true!
Gooday slothman, if you are doing lots of ks you may appreciate the comforts of a dresser ? I read this article recently which you may find interesting, it speaks highly of evos, particularly with regards to high ks, reliability and serviceability. Not to mention the plethora of parts and mods available.
