Anyone fit Shotgun shocks and NOT happy?

    Hi all,

looking very closely at getting some Shotgun shocks, have read mixed reviews though and it's a lot of coin to part with and then regret later.

only thing I'm looking for is improved comfort AND handling... Definitely not into the "slammed" look or pumping it up and down just to show off.

Anyone not like the shotgun and remove it to go back to hyd type suspension like progressives or something?

    thanks for any feedback.

Have had my shotgun on the bike for the last 12 months, would never go back to stock, the bike handles so much better and you have complete control on how soft or low you want it.

Love mine too, no issues at all. It's not just a great product, I have not seen this kind of customer service you get with JD any where before. Plus it has a lifetime guarantee. Think that says enough for this product. A little trick most don't know, if you're a HDforums member (the. American version), and you contact him on that forum, he will give you that forums discounted price. Which I think is either $1250 or $1350 US

I've ridden some long hours on shit stretches of north QLD roads, any one ridden around north QLD will tell you how bad the roads are, but I've found they are handle the rough roads great and don't get the pogo effect you will get with some systems like legend that you can't adjust the rebound with. I'll admit it takes a bit of getting use to and you need to know exactly how they work to get that understanding, but wants you're with the program it's easier to find your sweet spot on any road.

I can't say it's the best suspension on the market, nor can I say it's for everyone, but for me it's perfect and the suspension I had in before was excellent, and after reading some 50+ posts over the web and talking to countless people using it from all walks of life, I honestly haven't heard or read a bad review on them, only by people who haven't actually even owned a set.

Where abouts in Oz are you? If you're in Townsville or Gold Coast area, I'd be more then happy to show you some time mate

    Hey berms

ill back what squid said 10 fold.

never , ever have I received such great after sales and support from ANY company before.

I purchased a shock body second hand ( off this forum) and it turned out to be a early leaky unit.

I emailed JD about the issues and he imediatly posted me a new updated one

    no charge for postage even.

    absolutly NO cost to me

Again as squid said, once you have the rebound set ( piece of piss to do) you can slam it and raise it back within 30 seconds and it will return to its set rebound

best bit of kit I've bought in a long time.

    Well worth it

    matt

Hey matt, thanks for the reply and the info. One thing most people say is that the after sales service with Shotgun shocks is excellent.

So, if I read your message right - you can set the rebound to where you like it, then slam the bike to park it, then raise it again and off you go without having to set the rebound all over again??

    Thanks

yes. as the unit operates with two seperate chambers, it allows you to pre set the rebound which isnt affected by the dump /refill chamber.Well I cant pick if its any different anyway. I set it real stiff as I ride round town with it 3/4 lowered  then raise it for longer trips. Remembering where you set the rebound in the travel stroke is relative to how low you can go and still ride with it without scuffing. IE ride low = stiff , full travel = softer. in that case you should re set the rebound. It takes all of 30 seconds to reset anyway so dont stress about it. Plus its kinda cool dumping all the air at the lights and pumping it up again. I get some funny looks! (just dont do it  on a quick changing set of lights otherwise its not so cool!)

Theres oodles of info on you tube etc detailing how they work.google shotgun shocks ( if you havnt already)

Hi Berms, sorry, I just found this thread. I fitted the Shotgun system to my 07 Fatty, a few years ago. I can thoroughly agree with the aftersales service. Ive never struck another business that is so good with follow up work or warranty issues.
Mine used to leak down overnight. Not a biggie, i just pumped it back up before a ride and all was good.
I did find that I got that "pogo" effect you mentioned. Ive never owned an air ride bike or vehicle before, so I'm not sure if its par for the course with them or not. Im a big bloke, 6'4' and at the time around 115kg's. Maybe it was my weight?? dunno. But on the whole, it wasn't a biggie for me. I loved the way you could drop the bike down with the flick of a switch. Love the low look, so it suited me just fine. Get back on the road and quite easy to raise up as you ride off.
I mentioned the leaking unit and old mate sent another unit from the US, free of charge, no questions asked. Ive since sold the bike and the new owner has also had a unit replaced, free of charge.
That wouldn't happen here with any Aussie company.

Thats great service, but they must have something going to buffer sending out new replacements around the world.
I am assuming these shockys were not under warranty at the time.

+1 for Shotguns shocks, handles better then stock whether one up or two just hit the switch to get the ride you want and your good to go. After sales service is great, have a problem just email and you get a fast reply. My shocks lost air after a week I email J.D and he got me to check one or two things, but did not work, so he sent me a new shock unit at no cost.

    Yeah Berms

I fitted them, took a little longer to fit as my ride is an Evo and you have to get the compresser bracket in just the right spot. Would be a piece of cake on a twin cam as I think you only have one spot to fit it. As for the fail rate to me its not a problem as JD stands by his warranty. And being only 70kg like you, I just hit the switches  for more ride height and dampening when the wife is on the back and away we go.

    Cheers

    Hey Berms

Not all that hard to fit if you have the right tools and you can get it off the floor, it's a bit easier that way and J.D sends good install sheet with the shocks. As for pogo effect once you play around with your ride height and dampening and you hit the sweet spot all is good.

    Cheers

This is how good Shotgun after sales service is. On the Softails with ABS the compressor sits in front of the shocks and when you change the tranny oil you have to drop the Comp and shocks to drain the oil. With my bike Jack I have to change the position of the Jack to lower the shocks and I jammed the comp between the Jack and the bike smashing the outer case. Sent an email to Shotgun asking how quick they could get me one and the price for a new compressor. They emailed straight back saying they would send me a new comp on Mon and asked what size Tshirt so I guess they are sending me one with the compressor. They have a lifetime warranty on there shocks but I was expecting to pay for the new compressor as they are not idiot proof and it was completely my stuffa-up.
I've had the shotguns on for about 3 years now and really like them as can change the ride height and damping for different loads and roads. Never had a problem with them and JD will always answer any questions and gives you good advice. A big thumbs up to JD and Jessica at Shotgun.
