    Hi guys,

I'm looking at getting some V&H pipes and screaming eagle air cleaner put on my street bob and was wondering about putting a screaming eagle tuner with it and if there worth the money?

The Harley dealer will try REAL hard to sell you a Supertuner , can't blame them for that , and here in Perth they have a huge % uptake

Often here in Australia it's the only tuner the HD dealers will work with ( Same in the US in many cases !)

I have 2 bikes , one on the TTS system , the other on a Supertuner which was with the bike when I bought it

I find the TTS way easier to work with between the 2 systems , as i do all my stuff myself. I have put LOADS of guys here in WA onto TTS since 2008

You only want to buy it once mate so choose what's best for you. Dealer service guy or DIY guy is the question ?

And for what it's worth , there are many other exhaust options other than V&H

    Freedom Performance

    Khrome Werks

    Kuryakyn

    S&S

    Supertrapp

To name but a few !

In my experience ,( and my opinion ) you get " best bang for the buck" with stock OEM headers and freeflowing slip-on mufflers

NOT current HD dealer supplied Screamin Eagle systems or slip-ons

Being a Dyna , there are LOTS of "OLDER" slip-on mufflers that will work , even Screamin Eagle prior to 2007

Don't exclude looking into a Thindermax. It will auto tune AFR

    Cheers

T-Max is too dear in the current market , and painful to install compared to many others

I have REMOVED them from 2007 and 2008 bikes to reinstall the stock OEM with TTS tuning

That was for contnuing "problems" , speedo function/idle speed/fuel consumption issues

The guys were delighted with the "new" setup at the time and more importantly the bikes are still running with no issues !

+1 on the exhaust comments above from Retroman, avoid the impulse to buy the latest fashion in pipes as they may give less power, especially in the revs you use most and attract the cops for free, lol.

Tuners are a personal preference, have a Thundermax and love it, had no problems with it in 5 years and changed the heads, throttle body, barrels, cams, gearing, exhausts etc etc more than a few times. Chose it because of the auto tune feature. Lots of maps available for it, have a look at the list on their site and try and find a combination of parts that is not there. Some people love the Vision system too, most workshops and dyno tuners have a different personal preference.

Would buy a complete KnN complete air filter kit/system instead of a Harley performance one any day, the Harley one is made for looks and appearance first, performance second like most Harley stuff. Depends on what is important to you, it's your money.

Sparky, do some homework, then get the power vision.

Sorry, but thats it, full stop.

Not that the others don't do the job, just for a layman, the vision is very user friendly.

I'm in the same boat as Sparky 89 is. I have a 2014 Iron 883 and am going to be installing a pair of V & H slip on straight shots with a K & N filter and was wondering the same thing about the EFI tuner, is it required? when this sort of modification is done.

Sorry to Hijack your thread Sparky.

Hilly, your opinion is respected by me, no probs there, I just feel that for a beginner the PV is easyier to use,

as you said just my opinion.

Nah, all good mate. I'm no expert meself.

I might just add here for the OPer, that the reason I think PV is easyier for the starter is based on

what can be done with the PV unit itself,  without useing a computer or the software.

Respect peoples inputs, but just my two cents worth...

Very sceptical of anything that is home tuned... and especially TTS after someone said to me "if you wanted to check performance on a dyno I would have set it up that way rather than street tune"... WTF

The best performance I've had from the bike so far has been with PCIII and dyno tuned professionally. This was with V&H Short Shots.

The bike's current tune is with TTS... I have spoken to at least one dyno operator who suggested I bring PCIII with me and go back to non-closed loop with that tuner again.

I know more and more people are going to PV of late...

... what way should you go!!!! Go to a reputable dyno tuner who knows his stuff, and have him tune your bike with his recommended tuner

I just tuned my bike today using a TTS, what a difference and easy to use. I bought mine from Direct Cycle parts in the States, $325 USD + 25 bucks for the cables and $40 postage, got here in 8 days.

I've got 07 Road King with 10.8-1 comp, bored to 103 cubes, 585 cams, ported heads with 585 valve springs and oil cooler. I used a piggy back tuner before but could never get the tuning how I would have liked it, with the TTS got it right first time and only took 20 minutes and it';s the first time I've ever used one.

The SERT was too expensive and apparently not as good as the TTS, so for my two bob's worth go for the TTS.

Better get your research done and get a tuner quick.

Really dont want to be riding your bike around with those mods without the right map.

Bit of a learning curve with TTS and Powervision has probably overtaken TTS for popularity due to ease of use.

Really good things just around the corner for TTS.

Big question is do you want to tune it yourself ?

And you might want a dyno tune anyway .

Find a GOOD tuner and find out what they use.

I have never used a TTS interface before and I found it very simple to use and implement, my ride has been modified somewhat and I could never get the performance I wanted out of a piggyback tuner. Since tuning the bike's ECU with the TTS interface my bikes performance has improved, it will chug from idle in top gear with improved torque, accelerates rapidly and runs very smoothly overall.

The problem I had before was that the piggyback tuner would only adjust the fuel and not the ignition timing to suit the cams. After spending a small fortune on other tuners I should have just gone with the TTS in the first place. Don't be scared to play with it, I'm certainly no computer wiz and I found the TTS interface very easy to use and I would say at this stage I do not need a dynotune as I don't think it would make any difference. At this stage I have not utilised the Vtune as I think it is not neccessary and could complicate matters.

    Cheers and beers.

I am a novice when it comes to tuning a bike but from limited experience I think if you are like me then find a good dyno person in your area and go with what they are used to. I tried an autotune Thundermax on my 2008 FLSTC and it was shit. One day it would run good the next it was rough as guts. I ended up going with a Mastertune TTS, as that was my tuners preferred system. After he fitted it plus cams and run it on the dyno it ran flawlessly, I was very happy with the end result. My current ride has the Screaming Eagle tuner and so far it runs really nice. I bought the bike with it done.

Thanks for the help guys, although I may be now more confused then before the post lol, I've had no experience tuning myself so i'll get it done by someone else but I really need to get something picked out as I've had my bike since February but get my full license this Friday so I can "legally" ride it about and I'm starting to get sick of the stock pipes

Just hooked up my Screaming eagle tuner to my laptop for the first time. When I turn on the ignition I get the following.

Super Tuner has determined that a new version of the VCI software is available.  Please reprogram your VCI with the latest update. You must update your VCI before continuing.

It wont let me do anything else unless I click on ok. My fear is that if I do so it will alter settings or tuning. I have the 120r in the bike and it has different setting to the 103. I was told it was Dyno tuned at the dealer. Not sure if they did or I got an expensive download. From what I can see the file in there has my name on it.

    Please help.

When you do a download the SERT interface is generally not connected to the bike, so do your update then connect the SERT interface to the bike, download the bike's standard ECU settings and save them, from there carry out your tune and press enter.....all done, simple.
