Hi, would anyone know whether a 06' 1450 Softail stock exhaust would fit an 88' 1340 Softail?
Bob I've been looking for a while now and the only stock exhausts I've seen for sale are all either late model stuff 2000 and later (and I haven't seen any stock softail exhausts for sale at all), and most of the exhausts that I have seen for sale are pretty trashed anyway, dented and rusty with no heat shields or brackets etc. And I haven't seen one stock exhaust for any pre 96' softails for sale ever.
I've seen guys post on here asking if anyone knows where they can get hold of a stock exhaust for their bike so they can pass an EPA noise test that they have to go for. Someone on the forum even offered to lend someone a stock exhaust so that they could pass the noise test, so it seems to me that there aren't too many stock exhaust systems out there, and there certainly aren't too many for sale, especially pre 96' stuff.
Anyway I'm happy with what I found and with the price, the exhaust looks brand new and is complete, which I reckon is pretty good considering how old it is.
I bet that there are a heap of guys on here that would like to know where they can get a stock exhaust for their ride in case they have to go for a noise test, and especially if they can buy them for just $80-100.
Here's a pic of the exhaust I bought:
I reckon you got a good deal there liamray , yep evo parts are getting hard to find good used or new old stock oem just that bracket is $50 us bucks aftermarket + shipping I know I gotta get one even up to $350 for that would be pretty fair brought a few bit myself from hogridin never had a problem
Yeah like I said perthhog I'm happy with em, I've been looking everyday online for months both here and in the states for a stock exhaust, and while there were a few out there, like I said they were pretty sad, most were rusty and dented and had no heat shields or hardware, so I reckon I really lucked out finding these.
I bought them because I've just bought an 88' Softail Springer a few months ago and it's got LA Drag pipes on it, and I love em, but man are they loud, and I'm just waiting to get pulled up and given a bluey for the noise, plus the bikes got no low down power and seems to run out of breath up top, and I'm told it's because of the LA pipes not having any back pressure in em, so I can't wait to see if these stock pipes make a difference.
Finding these pipes reminded me of when I was restoring an old K1 Honda 750 Four back in 83', and I was looking for an original set of pipes for it (the old four into fours) and they were impossible to find. I was in the Defence Force at the time and I was telling my senior NCO who we called 'Dit' about restoring this K1 and that I was looking for pipes for it, and he turns around and tells me that his got a brand spankin new set hangin in his garage off his K1 which is wearing a four into one system, then he tells me I can have em for nicks, nearly fell off my seat, talk about being hit in the arse by a golden arrow!
