    hello to all,

i have purchased the bolts needed to lower my old girl (blue)!

im taking shocks out tonight after work...hopefully all goes well i'll bring shocks into work and press out circlip to change over with new lowering bolts, i have done alot of reading only to find out sacrifice travel (comfort) for lowness (looks)!

as im only 80kgs im hoping the bike will not bottom out!

if anyone has any tips or have done this to your bike please share your experience !

I see why you would want to lower the bike. at 80Kg's, I am a little surprised you compress the suspension

Looking good Koala ... I did the same regarding the tins on mine , pulled the original anniversary ones off , Bronze and Black and put on my current ones ... careful you don`t end up like me with a whole garage of extra bits we will probably never use or sell , Lol .

Question ... noticed you put a fork brace on after the rebuild , been thinking of doing the same myself ... did you notice any difference ... the Softails have a lot of room there to flex hey ... have always wanted to put on some 49mil front forks off a Wide Glide , but just waiting for the right deal to come along .

Anyone know if it would be just a matter of swapping out the Head Stems from the bottom Triple Tree ... will a complete Wide Glide front end slip straight into a Softail frame ... or is there a shit load more to consider ... are Wide Glide fork tubes shorter .

    Tim .

Koala ... noticed in another one of your post where you said you have your beast there at a Stage 3 level ... can I ask what you ended up getting done and how you reckon it goes now after the work .

At some stage down the line will be refreshing my EVO Springer and it`s always interesting to hear the direction others may have taken ... the TC is getting a motor over haul this week , so that should keep me busy playing for a little while ... Lol .

Definitely a big difference, after pulling the shocks apart and giving them a thorough clean, I set the preload to the hardest setting and had the intension to back off if needed after a test ride! As it works out springs are most likely a bit worn out being 23yrs old, the bike rides heaps better with the spring maxed preload! I did re-adjust hight after first ride and now have it just right !

When I had my 95 FXSTC I used the same lowering bolts, looked good lowered but at 105 kg's it was way too hard for my liking so I left it up...I also had a fork brace and noticed a bit of difference in handling but when I changed to a 19" front wheel the bike really handled heaps better...I have an 18" front wheel and fork brace on my Wideglide and again the handling improved...Maybe it's a mental thing but for me it's a must do mod...
