think if it was me I would stick to your first plan cam, ignition ,carb mods and a bit more comp 10:1 and
ev3 for me its proven cam but this could be just like a oil thread ever one reckons this or that is better

Have a look at the EV35 instead. Its an EV3 but with longer exhaust duration which allows the engine to run cooler in summer - a big plus here in AU!

I have also heard good things about the Crane Fireball 300 cam.

Perth Hog , yeah that's the plan for the EVO and I reckon your spot on about the type of Cam question , everyone else's is better , Lol ... but that's what makes this type of journey interesting for me at least , getting heaps of peoples ideas and then wadding through all the info and choosing what suits me best .

What Tussuck has said is interesting because as he says it gets hot up this way ... { Bloody Cold at the moment though for us good old Qld`ers , Lol } ... so will have a gander at the Ev35 Cam specs .

Had a look at the Ev46 that someone else recommended and I reckon it would be ok for a more hotted up motor but as I am going to just go a little mild on the Evo I might pass on that one .

With the mods to the TC already mentioned I am going to add one of Jim`s forced air flow little units ... in our summer up here I reckon will be a nice little reprieve for the motor when stuck in traffic .

Keep the ideas coming folks ... if nothing else it is always a good read ... cheers all .

I would have to say the EVO is quite simple to rebuild, i have just completed a full rebuild myself, the conrod has replacable outer races or they can be hoened if they are not worn, over sized bearings can be ordered to suit, i replaced the crank pin, brass washes, outer races, bearings, the two main bearings and outer rases,  new KB 0.30 pistons, rebored and hoened, valve stem seals, new gaskits and painted inner primary, bottom cases, barrels and heads for under $1000.

this is the first harley motor rebuilt, but i have had experience in modern 4 strokes and 2 stroke engine rebuilds, there is all the information you need on line you just have to read and understand some basic stuff.

about the most difficult stuff to get your head around is the gear side main bearing(colour code) easy once you get it! measuring the crank shaft outer and the outer race inner measurements(refer to manual) and push rod adjustement, quite simple

eg; threads per inch = 25.4mm     move the decimal point 2.54 x 6 = 15.24 flats  ,turn your nut 15.4 flats! easy, this applies to any threads per inch measurement.

    30 threads = 3.0 x 6 = 18 flats and so on. give it a go and save thousands!

Thanks for the info Koala ... a mate has offered to let me help him with the basics of a small rebuild he is doing in the coming months ... so will be looking forward to trying to get my head around the in`s and out`s of a EVO engine ... before stuffing my own up , Lol .

Just an inquiry for Tussuck or anyone else for that matter ... Tussuck recommended trying the Ev35 as it has a longer exhaust duration which would hopefully make it run cooler which would be a bonus in the Qld summer ... only thing is I can`t seem to find any details about it in the Andrews Catalogue ... thanks .

Thanks for that Don ... don`t know how I missed that , was that on the Andrew`s site .

Small bit of bad news for me ... the EVO work has to go on the back burner for awhile ... my better half`s mother has got herself in a bit of financial trouble and we have to bail her out , well don`t have to but as the old saying goes ... " Happy Wife , Happy Life " ... can`t complain , my Missus has been pretty good to me with everything I have done to the bikes and I am one of those lucky ones where she loves them as well and can`t wait to go for a ride when she isn`t spending time with her Daughter .

Not all bad news though , the TC is still full steam ahead ... what were they standard , about 65 Hp ... with the work I already done , got her up to 85 Hp ... after the newest additions she will be up around the 115 to 120 Hp ... Ye Ha ... should be a noticeable difference there me thinks , Lol .

Will still be doing the EVO down the line and have got some great info from you gents ... will let you all know how the TC turns out ... cheers all ... Tim .
