go get it tuned properly in lieu of the SE canned map M&W dumped in it, yes they have a dyno but it is used mostly for supporting resulting numbers not tuning the actual bike.
Sounds like your in Bris so go see Procycle Dyno for advice and possible tune, let them ride the bike and tell yopu if it can be reasonably improved or if mechanical changes are the best option.

Agree totally hilly, the variations in the numbers being posted are huge. There is a lot of generous dynos around these days that's for sure.

I love my stage 4 and am happy with it. Glad I have a good honest tuner who knows his shit, has a great rep and is also me mate... Even he finds some of these numbers questionable.

Specially when I see blokes running shit V&H short shots and getting over 120/120. I say bullshit

Paul I have no idea why you would spend a couple of grand chasing more ponies and then when ya get em complain that it's to much of a beast to ride. Surely ya would have researched what the kit would be like.
Maybe a japper would be better suited if ya looking for smoothness and power

The kit gasket is already .055" , piston 6.5cc, too much for little old 54's.

Would like to see a current compression test. Anyone with Stg 4 here checked ?
The Wood's are only $390, don't you like Bob's cams Hilly ?    777 are only .575, OK even for stock springs.

Thanks for all the advice guys, I must sound pretty silly, but I guess the stage 4 just doesnt suit my riding style. I love the bike, more fun than all the Jap, German, and italian bikes Ive owned over the years. The best bike Ive owned and this is my 20th bike. It has been dynoed at Pro Cycle by Fred and he is the best. The map M&W the dealer put in it was total shit and Fred sorted it out but I still enjoyed it more before the Stg 4. Fred is a really nice boke and knows his shit hey. He suggested the torque cones and also larger baffles and a retune. I like the new cam and head gasket idea. I dont really want to back build it to the stage 1, but if I did I'd have a stage 4 kit for sale only used by a little old lady to church and back.

the red was how it was from the dealer off the shelf tune, the blue is after Pro Cycle dynoed it. Pretty tidy figures hey?

PaulT whet has changed/happened since your glowing report on the pro kit after the dyno tune posted on the www

    Thanks

Thanks paulybronco, Yeah Im sure lots of people would love it, but I'd rather smooth bottom end power, Its sports bike quick above 4 grand. So what do you think would be a good Head gasket and cam combo? and I'll take it to Fred at Pro Dyno.

The blokes on the US forum say that torque cones will do nothing, that's not what they're for. Waste of time putting them in? You blokes rock thanks :o)

That big throttle body is not going to help with increasing your low end throttle response either. It'd be easy to sell it second hand though.

    Hi,

The people on the US site are also recommending to get it tuned by a proper tuner!! Is that The tuner it was taken too or still better around you reckon? When you look at the full chart not a lot of difference in the tuned and the canned map except the power and torque final readout

Put the canned map back in might take a bit of the edge of it

    Thanks

Paul T, so you did have it tuned at the correct place after the canned map from the dealer, felt it turned out great but after a while it's not what you need.
You asked for and got the tuners advice on the simplest way to get closer to your desired outcome. You commented he knows his stuff so why not just follow the advice?
He knows the combination now and how it is tuned. He has done countless of these bikes so has a fair idea of what will work for you.

I understand it not suiting your riding style, I have one of those bastards also, Oh and NO WAY it is sports bike fast from 4000 Rpm, I got way more HD hp than you and I got a reasonable Kawa and there is just no comparrision sorry. It's the nature of the beast.

    Hi,

Be pretty easy gig returning to stage1 anyway, keep the pistons, put original throttle body and injectors back on, leave the cams for a while or get a set of SE, but you have plenty of pushrods to use, put heads back on, probably knock it over in a solid weekend

I would seriously consider that before you spend any money on other stuff

    Thanks

Get a Tman (nice cams with broad power range and quiet), S&S or Andrews cam that suits your present 10.5:1,  get a 2;1 exhaust longer rather than shorter which is also smaller rather than big diameter, a smaller throttle body if it wll still fit (a bored to 50mm and well ported standard one or a HPI will out flow the harley SE 50mm and have better response). Big exhausts, throttle bodies etc etc etc are OK if you want to ride around at 4000-6000 RPM in first or second gear all day, try to resist the urge that bigger is better. Quick easy way to do it yourself and keep the costs down without having to take the heads off. Get your money back by selling the over the top bits on there now. If you want revs and power a second hand japa will do it better and not be much different in cost to what you might have spent just on the top end so far if a dealer did it all for you. Spend that much on modifying a jap motor which is half the size and see how fast it will go. At the end of the day it is a heavy bike with an air cooled twin cylinder motor not far removed from the first Harley OHV big twin made around WWII in it. NRHS I think it was did some dyno tests on exhaust cones and some other stuff, most of it is not worth the money, you might ever lose a bit of power. Still love mine as well even with all its faults.

    Just my 2 cents.

Well I'm going back to stage 2, back to the way it was with just torque-ier cams. Fueling lifters, adjustable push rods & dyno tuned and rebuilt with love by Pro Cycle at Springwood. Expensive lesson but a lesson none the less. I'm on a Victory now for a week....eeeuw..

    That's a real shame.
You have a good solid setup with decent heads and good compression.....you just need the right Cam's.
But it's your bike, so you have to be happy.

I know it sounds stupid to go backwards, but the tuner said he'll put some nice cams in it so I'll be smooth and make the same if not more torque as the stage 4 did, and really, isn't torque in the real world where its at? Also this might sound picky but the high compression pistons gave the V&H long shots a real sharp note, I really preferred the deep rumble of the stock pistons. One thing, I took off on the stage 4 bike the other day and didn't give it the 4 hours the St 4 needs to warm up and left from a standing start from a tee junction and the bike popped almost stalled and fell over mid corner.surprise
