Just wondering what makes the sound after you turn on the ignition.

the noise made by my bike(48) seems to have changed recently and I'm wondering if there may be a problem.

The fuel pump priming sound?

Is that what it is?!. What ever it is it sounds different now to when I first got it. It's sorta slightly squeaky/ raspy.

should make a whirr and a sort of a sucking noise.

Yeah the whirr is sorta squeaky. Could the fuel pump be on the way out?

How olds the bike? My fuel pump makes odd noises when it primes too if I don't ride the bike for a few days or so and it's only 6 months old :/

My 48 does the same , fuel pump primes , sucks and squeaky noise , spoke to Hd mechanic , said nothing to worry about , it's from not riding everyday

Thanks for the info guys. I've been riding it a bit lately and it's back to normal. I also replaced the battery so I'm not sure if that may have helped.

My Iron did that after a few months, and usually when I hadn't been on it for a week or so.
I'm sure it was the fuel pump. It always started fine though.

And that's why we run Carbs! Lol
