The people importing them did'nt do it to sell them cheaper , I ponted out on this forum a couple of years ago they were fucking the market up, when i went to my local dealer and he had 14 imports out of 18 harleys for sale , but they saturated the market .

Then again with a lot its there own fault if there so silly that they think buying a Harley is an investment, well they need to go back to school, Secondhand vechilles car or bike are not investments , but yet so many Harley riders THINK THERES ARE , Ok you get certain models that are ,but definetly not the average model . .

So take this bike for example ..

I bought the same bike in 2008 ,, now i paid from memory $22500 ,, I then spent on pipes , race tuner, air filter ,, backrest pillion seat , and rear footpegs ,,, NOW WHEN IT COMES TO SELL WHY WOULD THE BUYER HAVE TO REFUND ME FOR THE EXTRAS , .

Them extras the seat backrest , were so my missis could come out with me , so there my problem , The tuner and pipes , well its no one elses fault i want to listen to noise , anymore than i would recoup my money if i wanted to sit on a albino crocodile skin seat .

So all the extras do are make my bike more attractive to the buyer when i sell , maybee mine with extras at say 40000 klm is worth the same has another no extras with 30000 klm , if the buyer wants them , if not he will buy the lower klm bike given the colors right and there both in good nick

So it brings us to the bike ,, Buying at 22,500, included , stamp duty , 12 months reg and gst,, bringing the price down for the bike to say 20 grand ,,, Now given its 6 years on the road , done 60,000 klm i'm suprised they even offered 12 grand , what would they market it for 17grand , including stamp duty 3 month warranty , rego , and profit ,

Personaly if i bought it private , i would be offering 12 grand max , , plus stamp duty taking me to 13 grand , and that would only be if it was aroung the corner and i did'nt have to travel , any dearer or any further , i would say fack it i'll go to Peter Stevens and offer them $14500 for the one on the floor that comes with a warranty , and probably a lot lower klm

It can be hard to accept , but the facts are  if you buy a motorbike , you WILL LOSE MONEY  so use the fucking thing and get your moneys worth ,

I've lost shit loads on bikes because i've always changed them , i have a desease,,,  its called SEE BIKE WANT BIKE .  ,  and it has no  fear or favor ,, Does'nt matter if its a Harley  Jap or British , if i like em i want them . .

My rocket tourer ,  its 2008 , bought new in 2009  Its never missed a service , been oil changed every  5000klm , , done 56,000 klm  mainly touring ,Cost 25 grand new ,  got around 4 grand in extras ,  and at 56000  has you would expect , its just starting to loosen up and running better than ever , But like i said , the extras were for my benefit , At 25 grand that included $2500 in rego stamp duty and fee's wich is what you pay for the benefit  of owning it from new.

Whats it worth probably 12-13 grand  private ,, trade in  i dunno 10 grand ,, But i've not lost because i've enjoyed it travelled all over Aust on it and never been let down ,, .

The trick to it is Buy them ,,,, USE THEM ,,,, AND EITHER SELL THEM  AND NOT BE DISAPOINTED OR,   keep them .... I'm  looking for another Harley but really have to make my mind up is it worth selling the rocket , or just keeping it ,

But one thing i will not be doing is paying someone just  has much has they paid , before stamp duty rego ect ,  and paying them for the privelege of owning a harley wether they used it or not

Honestly....what's with the selling of bikes after a couple of years (and then bitching about the price).

Buy the bike and keep it! If you want the latest shiney toy then be prepared to take a hit on the resale value. I had a stealer try to sell me an Ultra for just shy of 40k.... Checked out the private adds and could score a better bike for half the cost.
