Choosing License plate number

    Hey all,

So I'm buying a brand new HD from the dealer here in Sydney and just have a quick question.
When you buy a brand new car / bike in the UK, a dealer has a list of license numbers that they use when registering new vehicles and will allow you to choose on off the list of available ones. I'm just wondering if you can do the same here in Aus? (First time buying new since moving here)

I bought a car in the UK once without the option of choosing and the last three letters were WKR... Which caused quite a lot of abuse haha blush
Would like to avoid that kind of thing happening again if I can.

    Cheers

Its the same here - when I bought a new car in Victoria, the dealer had a limited range of numbers that one could choose from. It will be a block of numbers from whatever is the current series - so, like in your case if it is something like WKR, the only option will be to wait a few days until WKS comes around. Or go for custom plates. My car number was a 66x and I remember the dealer telling me how a lady very eagerly waited for a few days to take up the 666 in that series for her BLACK car since she identified herself as a witch! laugh Don't know if she was pulling a fast one on him or he on me, but it was a funny story which I am sure he has repeated many times.

    Hey man

It depends on the dealer. That said, just go and get one you like once you have it home. I did. <img src=" border="0" src="/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/_default/emoticons/smile.gif" />

Here in Australia " custom plates" are NOWHERE near as wankingly expensive as the UK

I have them on most all my vehicles , for a witty small plate if nothing else

Downside is , once you've picked one out that they will let you have at the licenscing office , it takes approx 6 weeks

You do not make your own plate like the UK , the plates are government made ( I have heard in the prison system !)

I got FOXTROT YANKEE ALPHA ( F YA ) here in WA , it means " For your attention" of course haha...

Cost $510 including the small metal series plate. In the UK that number would be worth THOUSANDS for sure mate
