RSD Gauge Relocation on my Iron

My Gauge relocation rocked up 2 weeks early in the mail today so i spent the arvo putting in on. After a couple of quick trips to Supercheap and some modifications to a lunchbox lid im all done.

I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to remove the light from the eyebrow but after some help from google mechanics ir explained to me that it was just a round cap, so with some help from a Flat screw driver i figured it out in the end

Heres the Lunch box lid. Im going to get something more permanant in the near future for the dummy lights as its pretty much bush machanics, probably look at getting a piece of machined metal to hold them in there.

I just cut some plastic to hold them to the bar clamp for the time being.

Wrapped the crap out of the dummy lights with some sparky tape (temporary).

    Heres the finished product.

    .

This last picture is taken from rider eyesight too :). wont be doing over 200 and i can usually tell when im under 20

Over all it was pretty simple to hook up. the Hardest (annoying) thing was just cutting the plastic to hold the dummy lights in.

Next is a Seat from sicksaddles which is about 3 weeks away and im thinking about a 1.5 inch tank lift and wire tuck. Also want to source some black caps for the front and rear axel

i love the sleek look and reccomend it to other Iron owners :)

Looks good! I thought that RSD also sell a new dummy light cluster using LED's to go with the speedo bracket?

Yeh they do, extra $60 US, but they are made for their clip on bars, so you'd never see them with a normal bar and clamp. I havnt ridden it yet since putting this on but that photo from riders eyesight shows you'd have to keep leaning right forward to see them.

Im thinking about putting them over on the left hand side of my bars. Not sure yet.

Fair enough! They look OK where they are as well, and at least you can see them. Cheers, TC

This is great. I've been looking at the Jokerman side mount with the lights on in the bezel.
I much prefer your answer though, a lot cleaner.

    Nice work.

I didn't want to do the side mount knowing it's illegal in QLD. Keep it looking like it's legal and they won't pull you over and defect you all the way to the bank.

    Touch wood.

Looks sooo much better! I'm ordering mine next week, already have my joker machine top clamp... What bars are those btw? Really dig them

    Cheers,

Mate I couldn't tell you ha. Check the website on the sticker on the bars.  Ventura. I had no idea untill I saw that sticker under the bar clamp haha

I bought it with them on it. They are really comfortable as well. And easily adjustable by loosening the top clamp.

Yeh the joker machine bar clamp looks good. I just wanted to sort something a bit different out. Not even sure yet where the lights will end up.

Cheers man. Slowly blacking it out. Just painted the fuel cap matte black over the last few days looks heaps better. Did you have any luck finding the bars?

I got the hd flush cap on mine, really cleans the top of the tank up... Nah Not really, but using my skills of deduction I'd say they're the extended drag bars cos the only other set of drag bars they have only come in chrome and stainless finish

The mount looks good. Some guys who relocate the speedos attach the indicator lights to the bar clamp with simple double sided tape. I think I'll have to investigate those venture bars.. I found the HD drag bars hard on the lower back after a while, and these seem to have more pull back on them. I am using Biltwell Moustache bars at the moment. I also use the black flush fuel cap on my Big blue pearl Iron. As for blacking out, one thing I did (that I haven't seen done elsewhere) was remove and paint satin black the 5 silver bolts on the front wheel that would be used to hold on a second disc. It cleans up the front wheel nicely.

McGee, I'd be real interested to see what you come up with for the tank lift components wise. Would you mind posting up what you purchase and how it goes?
Might save me paying the crazy kits money :)

Got the tank lift done. Chose 1.5 inch. Picked up this bit of aluminium from bunnings the dimensions are

20mm x 3mm x 1m. Cost me 5 bucks so you have plenty to play with and bought 2 black nut and bolts. 10mm diametre I think and about  30mm long they cost $2.70 for both. So $7.70 all up.

Marked out  1.5 inch holes centre to centre,  10mm from end of metal to centre of hole.  I also did 2 inch on the other end just in case I want to go bigger

Just grabbed a grinder and cut them off and filed everything back so no sharp edges or corners.

The bolt needed about 20mm cut off  the end so it was short and neat. I chose to have the fixed

head of the bolt hidden on the inside. Due to the frame getting in the way and the head  hitting

i just I put the bolt in the vice and  took about 4mm off the top with a grinding blade.  That gave

me about 3mm of clearance between the bolt head and frame of bike.

My phone died so lacking pics but here's a few after shots, I will be painting it matte black tomorrow.

    First pic is before shot.

Nice work mate, and thanks again for posting up. Looks great, painting it black will be cleaner for sure.
Are you going to do a tuck?
I'm just about to get side shots and the heavy breather... Ever had any problems with the boys in blue noise wise?

Hey man literally just did the tuck then. It's fiddly and bloody hard with the 1.5 inch lift haha. I just taped the crap out of everything took me ages cause I had to find the right position to get the tank back down haha. Broke a fuse too so freaked out but got it fixed haha. I'll post pics later.
No issues with noise. I usually ride a gear too high when I'm sitting on 60 through traffic and built up areas and just go out of my way to be quiet when people are around. I've only had the bike for a month or two. I've made sure my mods make the bike still look legal. So I don't get pulled over for something else and then they add the pipes haha
I don't ride like an idiot which probably helps a little ha

Ok her are some pics.. the first few are the painted brackets and the bolt after i grinded it down.

I started off with taping the loose coloured wires together and unplugged everything to see where i could get it to fit first. i managed to get one wire and plug around the otherside of the neck of the frame under the bars so now it was on the right side. gave me a bit of room to play with the other wires.

what i did with the tank was remove completly to do all this, after i had them plugged back together i sat the tank in place and just stuck an allen ket in the rear to hold it on and allow it to move.. just chocked it up with a role of tape..... spent the next hour using and cutting  a bazillion cable ties and bits of tape trying to get the tank to sit down far enough..

i then broke some wire that went into a black square fuse thing... no idea what it was... manged to get another conector from super cheap and just stripped the wire and put a new one on.. easy fix thank god.

anyways after that i got it in place using minimal zip ties around the backbone of the bike. fair bit of trial an error..

i want to eventually find some black tubing or black tennis raquet tape to clean up the leccy taped wires that you can see.. here are the pics
