Help with Exhaust - 2014 Fat BOB

    Hi Guys,

I have recently bought 2014 Fat BOB (denim black), during the first service I am looking forward to upgrade it to stage 1.

I need help in selecting Exhaust; I think stock exhaust sound is not doing justice to the HD look.  I need something noticeable but not too loud.

Saw V&H big radius 2 into 2, bit louder and expensive.  Someone recommended Rush slip on (are they good !!), they sounds better then stock (checked some you tube videos) but not sure which Buffles to select 1.75, 2.00 or 2.25..

I would appreciate your experience and guidance.

I bought the pipes I liked the look of (same reason I bought the bike) and I hated my V&H bigshots when I got them - I even complained on here about the noise/sound/note. After a little pissing around (thunder torque inserts) I'm happy as a pig in mud with the sound and power.
If I had to do it all again I might even buy the same pipes since there aren't may I like the look of.

    Thanks guys for options.

As I want my bike sound respectable, not obnoxious which baffles you reckon, 1.75" or 2" ?

    Hi Fat808

i have s & s slipons on my 2013 fatbob. Sound is good but when you ride with others can't hear my bike. No other engine mods yet but want to get hi flow filter, TTS tuner and maybe down the track lumper cams.

If you want to be heard in a crowd of hogs gotta go louder than slipons.

Having said that copper was behind me for several Klms the other day and I could short shift no loud noise at all. He passed me without so much as a look

i am looking at maybe set of v & h long shots but think maybe too loud.

Mates have big radius on soft tails. Are pretty barky

good luck let us know how you go

Builder Bob, have you had the catalyic convertor removed from your stock headers? Do that and you'll hear it a bit more, might need a retune though also after the removal

No Daggs haven't yet. Still less than a year old and first harley so trying to work out how far I am going to go with it. First I thought xieds would be enough.  Now I def want tts. Thought s & s slipons would be loud enough. Nope. Now wondering if long shots are the way to go. Seen too many with big radius so will try something else. Def love the look of 2 x 2 exhaust.have scoured the forum to see if anyone has taken s & s slipons  apart but seem to be all screaming eagle ones. S&s look different and I am shit as a mechanic so don't want to stuff them up. Maybe if they are drilled out some extra diameter or more holes would louden them up. Still learning heaps on the forum so THANKS to all contributers as us newbys read it all.

best statement to date was on here

your harley is always $2000 away from being finished.

Next time there's a bike show (or the like) in your area rock up and listen/look at the different pipes as people arrive. Pay attention to the bike type (make sure it's the same as yours) since pipes don't always sound the same on a different bike.
Most people will tell you what baffles/setup/stage they are running too, so you'll save yourself more than a few bucks piddle fucking around with your setup.

No mate the cat is in the header pipe before the mufflers, you can get that cut out but leave the s&s mufflers alone

Got V&H big shots staggered on my 2014 fatbob , I put the quiet baffles in they make it only a little bit quieter but it's a deeper note sounds heaps better

If you don't want to spend a lot I would suggest S&S slipons first. If you find it is still too quiet or restrictive then remove the cat and cut out the bypass valve. The cat is located in the section between the header pipes and where the slipons go. Pipe goes 2 in to1 into 2. It is in the1 part. If you cut a neat piece out of the back of this section you can break the cat up and then weld peice back in. While you have this off you can cut out valve with blow-torch. That way you can leave the cable on the out side of the valve and it will look standard. The standard slippon muffers are very restrictive alone. Also when the valve is closed it's only going through one muffler which is also the most restrictive of the 2. They also weigh a ton.

I first had a Vance & hines big radius 2 into one. I found the above set up (S&S) sounded better and flowed better than the expensive Vance & hines pipe.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Missed this thread for a couple of days and was asking same question on another thread.

The mechanic I have been recommended to suggested exactly that Dutchy. Cut out cat and flap. Andrews cam and adjustable pushrods. High flow a/c then off to lushy for a tune with a bought licence pcv.

The only thing I want to change is to have a tts instead of just a licence for other.

Which andrews cam would you guys suggest for off the line torque and acceleration ( 0 to 5000 rpm )  Don't mind it a bit lumpy at idle either.

Without the info on this forum I would be at hh spending 5 X as much in $ and not know anything about my bike. Cheers guys.

Ps I am mechanical dummy so like the idea of being able to put bike back to stock if ever defected with minor spanner work. ( assuming cams will get through regency if everything else is stock)

    thanks again
