The Saffastrayan contingent left Tailem Bend on Saturday accompanied by a couple of delinquent Mexicans who snuck over the border on Friday.
We had GT (who managed to completely dodge the cameras), Mickle (who also proved to be elusive), China, Spook, Bert, Tim and Steelo. Steelo, Spook and Bert returned home the same day after ensuring that the reprobates and imports left the state.
Timmy ready to roll.........................or else what?
Bert and his trusty Trumpy
Bloody China posing AGAIN!
Outside the Murrayville Hostelry for a lunch stop.
Steelo and Bert waiting..........................................or could be posing!
And of course the best is left till last.........................Spook and Steelo at Murrayville.
Enjoy the ride guys, and ride safe. Wishing that I was able to join you but current circumstances & finances prevent me otherwise. Oh well, maybe another time, hopefully in the next couple years.
Keep the pics coming, for those of us who can only wish we were there.
Forgive the intrusion into this thread, but I was directed over here from the general discussion after posting an enquiry about tips for Snowy Mtn routes. You guys seem to have done the Mtns a few times, so if anyone has time to offer some tips about the following I'd be very appreciative.
I'm riding Melbourne to Wollongong in the second week of February. I'm hoping to route through as many Snowy Mtn roads on the way there and back as I can (some time on M31 and A1 will happen for time-constraint reasons!). But I cannot ride everything in one trip ...
- Going from the A1 over to Jindabyne, what's the better run to connect with the Snowy River Way, the Snowy Mtns Hwy (from Bega) or Mt Darragh Rd (Pambula through Bombala)?
- If you could only ride one, Bonang Hwy Delegate to Orbost or Great Alpine Rd (either southward or northward)?
- Kings Hwy (B52) Canberra to Batemans Bay and A1 to Wollongong, or is the Nerriga Rd I see connecting Braidwood to Nowra a decent ride?
- From B400 Alpine Way to B72 Snowy Mtn Hwy, is it a better ride the short way through Cabramurra (Tooma rd and Link rd) or the long way through Tumbarumba (via Jingellic, and Elliot Way etc)? That is, if coming from Albury-Wondonga way (probably taking the Kiewa Valley Hwy from Bright to B400) and heading toward Cooma and on to Canberra.
Sorry for all the detail! Just trying to route out something interesting and trying to gather as much info as I can.
Chinashop Bull, my bad, I should have listed my road preferences etc (was conscious of not writing a novel!).
For long rides I prefer more long sweepers over hairpins, just to keep the fatigue factor in check, though I enjoy the twisties and like to mix the two if I can. I always try to avoid dirt where possible and, if not, would choose alternate routes where dirt is more than a 10km stretch. I am an experienced rider, having ridden lots of Alpine routes around the globe (Thailand, Vietnam, USA east coast, the alpine areas in and bordering the Swiss Alps). I think my skill level is reasonably good, and I always err on the side of caution over extravagant risk. My ride is an FXR, so good ground clearance and made for twisties.
Hope the extra info helps.
PS: was just reading that the Omeo Hwy is now sealed. I might take that from Omeo to Tallangatta and aim to do (on return leg) the Kiewa Valley Hwy north to south and Towonga Gap Rd east to west Mt Beaauty to Bright. An elevation chart suggests running the Towonga Gap rd east to west (Mt Beauty to Bright) is better. Anyone offer an opinion?
leaving Orbost this morning
As said before, Great bunch of blokes on a great ride. We all had fun on some of the best roads in Oz.
