Scattered throughout the forum are various questions and comments about windscreens / windshields.
After nearly 40 years of stuffing around with OEM fairings, OEM screens, 3rd party accessory screens, helmets and earplugs I may have found a reasonable working solution. National Cycle in the USA make the Stinger / Wave that can be mounted on a SuperGlide.
Previous attemps have included Harley x3, Guzzi x2, Kawasaki x2, Triumph x1, Aprilia x1.
The kit comes in two parts: a) the screen itself for 2006 and later SuperGlides part no. NC-N21601 and b) the mounting yokes for 49mm forks part no. NC-KIT-Q143.
I got mine from cruisercustomizing.com for A$455 delivered. I've used this online motorcycle supply store for other items in the past and they have always been reliable.
Look at the pictures and you will see an airfoil or 'flipper' attached to the top of the screen. This is a Wunderlich product. Wunderlich make a whole range of accessories for BMW bikes. I got mine from Procycle.com.au (Sydney) for about A$170 delivered. The flipper has a double jointed hinge mechanism which provides a wide range of adjustability.
In my view the set up on the FXDC is pretty good. Absolutely no head buffeting and the wind noise is reduced to a low frequency 'roar' rather than a high pitched whistle / scream. The other thing I've learnt is don't skimp on helmet quality. I only use high end Shoei's.
Pic 1: Wunderlich flipper on top of National Cycle Stinger/Wave screen. (Not scratches - just lots of reflections and camera flash).
Pic 2: FXDC front-on.
Pic 3: View from bike seat. Note soft leather bag stuffed behind screen to absorb vibes. Carries spare sunnies, coins and other bits and pieces.
Pic 4: Screen removed. Note mounting yokes on upper forks. These seen to be good quality chrome and don't look out of place on the bike.
