Was riding to work today and my S&S slip on mufflers slipped off....

Clamps that hold them on look a bit rusty. Managed to get them back on roadside and nurse the bike to work.

Called the dealer and collecting new clamps tomorrow.

Can anyone tell me do I need to use any sealant or paste to hold the mufflers as well as the clamps.

    Thanks In advance..

nah the clamps are just shit, they need replacing (not real expensive)or a thin shim put between the pipe and the clamp, I did notice a very small abount of black rubbery shit on the inside of my spare slip-ons that goes over the pipe on the bike,, maybe this is like what u mean... (i`ve never bothered to replace it tho and had no probs).. I`m sure the dealer will know what it is called if it is common shit (post it up if you find out)

Yep, replaced the clamps $12,00 each.. Thats seems to have worked.

Apparenttly do do stretch and need to be replaced.

Youre talking about a Dyna right ?

Been a common problem for years , bracketing arrangements between the mufflers is the problem if the clamps are loose

The clamps have to be torqued to 45 Ft/Lbs ( maybe more !)

Many dudes here in Perth used to drill and pop rivet under the clamping are as well
