As from Oct ALL learner riders in Vic will be forced to wear hi-vis vests. They are mandatory during the duration of your learner period. There has been no discussion with motorcycle groups or safety commitys!

whats wrong with wearing hi viz gear anyway? i saw a bloke on a scooter yesterday, wearing the high viz vest over his yellow raincoat and yellow leggings. his helmet was white with an orange reflective stripe on each side. he was hard to miss. there wasnt a cloud in the sky and it was a warm afternoon. he looked like he was enjoying himself but.

People can wear Hi Viz.
We're not telling them not to.
They can make that decision and so can I, not the fucking Government.

Don't really see the problem in learners needing to wear a vest. Most riding schools make them wear them, round here anyway.

My young fella has just started his scooter licence and I have told him he can wear one for the first few months or at least till he becomes more competent and can read the traffic better, especially at night since his lights are pretty poor. Anything is better than nothing to be seen.

No one really gives a shite about what they look like except for the person wearing them and that is forgotten 5 minutes into the ride.

Being on the road alot with work, I see alot of drivers that don't see (or choose to ignore)
stop signs,
give way signs,
keep left signs,
stop light and the list goes on and on.

Why would HiVis be any different.

Well Gents here in the Nazi State , most of the laws we all live with across this great place we call OZ were thought up and trialled here in Victoria , the other states sit back look at the results and the revenue stream , and go fuck yeah , lets have some of that. So if the Nazi's make the learners were the vest , sure as eggs it will flow on to all riders , just like the hi viz is across industry. But l do like having on the back of them , can you see me now ASSHOLE.

What scares me is that, as a Queenslander, I am feeling the brunt of laws rushed into effect without any consultation or vote by the public. Now, this in Victoria. How much longer are we going to allow these so-called elected officials make laws without consultation with the people?

What's next, rego numbers of the bike on the Hi-Vis vest to make it easier for the speed cameras?

The good old nanny state of Victoria at it again, Yes I live in this god forsaken law ridden, Cocksmoker run state. The government needs a good shake up for sure. How is the big question.?? Labour and Liberal are just as stupid as each other at the moment, the smaller parties are one agenda no idea morons in general. 

Are people still allowed to protest?? I think you are as long as you don't cause an inconvenience to anyone?? So how to change the rules is the big question not sitting around twiddling thumbs like they hope everyone will do. Because once they introduce a law under the SAFETY banner it isn't going to get any better. Just look at your place of work over the last 20 years. Gone from people having common sense to hiding behind OH&S bullshit every time something happens.

Tasmania is looking better and better as an early retirement destination and no it's not just bikes, it seems where ever I turn as a small business owner the government is poking their noses into it and stuffing things up.

The latest example for me... the new shed at work needed new loos (well of course) except that we had to fit a disable access shower (no one ever showers or ever will shower at work) with a fixed to the wall disabled shower seat (at a cost of a couple of thousand dollars) and a separate disabled toilet (even though the loos are not for public use just staff use) and we've got zero disabled staff (also at a cost of several thousand dollars). Oh and we have to fit special metal brail signs to those loo doors at a cost of $125 each instead of $10 plastic toilet signs from bunnings (because we won't get a pass on the check list if we don't).

This country is going to shit faster than a guy who ate a load of bad take away from a road side van.

It is easier and cheaper to make riders wear Hi Vis than to educate drivers to use their skills. We now know that is not working and if anything is getting worse. The safer we make motor vehicles, the less people are inclined to use their skills to drive them.

Recently there was an article about retro fitting rear vision cameras to all vehicles so that kids wont be run over in driveways. Here's a thought try using ya parenting skills and dont allow ya kids to play near the car in the fucking driveway.

The NSW RTA made us wear high viz vests when i did the P's test a few years ago. I think the high viz Learner display plate is enough, a shiny vest aint going to make leaners less vulnerable.

Sorry lads if you think l was redirecting the the theme l was just maybe enlightening the younger members of the forum to some of the laws , when members like myself use to get away with, and now sit around campfires lamenting the fact , how we use run amok and no one gave two fucks except the mates we buried. Still l can guarantee, it was fun at the time. ln the early days they brought in 60 mph [100kph] speed limits , .05 , helmet laws, headlights, 250 cc limitations and no doubt others could list some more. l t was a lot of fun in the early days , but like l said we buried a fair share.
