Went for a ride today up into the Perth hills area with a non Forum mate for a few beers and pub stops along the way.Meet a guy with this 56 Ariel Square 4, awesome restoration job, the bike started its life here in Oz in the Victorian Police Force.Check them out on Wikipedia.Interesting read.
Have an interesting story on these bikes . A few years ago I visited Ken Mcintosh in his workshop in Auckland . We got to talking old bikes as he had a Vincent in there he was working on . Talk turned to the Ariel square 4 . His take on their reliability was that they were originally designed when most roads were dirt , and the cruising speed was low . As the design was not updated with the roads that were becoming bitumin , the cruising speed was raised and the overheating problems became apparent . It made sense . I spent hours talking to him , a memorable arvo .
Great pics Keith , thanks for sharing .
Pretty to look at.
A couple more I have come across in my travels, these two are in the Barber Museum in Birmingham GA USA,awesome private collection of bikes. A must to visit if your in the Southern States,Birmingham is also the home of the Confederate Bike. The one with the side car is awesome !
Its even got a sunroof, the car was built by them also, Palmers ego wouldn't fit in there Pauly, hey this might suit him ?
