G'day All,

I was on my way to Throttle Roll 2014 this morning when after filling up with fuel I went to leave the fuel station and the bike stalled. Strange I thought, restarted and of I went, then I got a little further down the road and when I stopped at a set of lights the bike stalled again. So again restarted but the bike wouldn't idle. I had to hold the throttle on slightly to avoid stalling. So I headed home and removed the air filter thing the throttle body may be dirty, but it was reasonably clean. However he wire sensor is looks wet, as shown in the pic below. Now should this look wet? and if it shouldn't look wet can I clean it by spraying carby cleaner into the throttle body and leaving for half hr or so to evapourate? I don't tune the bike myself, but it has a 103kit, SEPST and Short shot pipes if that changes anything. It kind of seems if the idle settings in the computer just dropped out.

Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

So I started the bike up about half hr ago to see if the it was still playing up and no problems at all. So its got me stumped. Does anyone know if I can hook my SEPST up and check diagnostic codes? I'm a bit tentative to hook the bike up in case the CPU on the bike goes haywire.

I would say Bad Fuel...

well the problem is back. checking the codes tonight. Could bad fuel cause the bike not to idle but still run?

I would try flushing the IAC out.That's the hole at the top in front of the throttle blade ,shown in your pic.
I just use WD spray for this,with the plastic hose fitted to the spray nozzle.shove some clean rag into the throttle body to catch the gunk.
stick the spray nozzle into that hole in front of the throttle blade and give it a good flush out.You will see the spray coming out just behind
the blade from the top.
P.S I've also used map sensor cleaner for this,supose carb cleaner would also work.

Is there anything else at all playing up in addition to the idle?

Well was checking the codes. When when I went to clear the codes by restarting the bike I hear a clack from below the seat and the power cut out(lights and ignition). I hooked up 12 volt charge and it says battery requires charging, so that's what's happening at the moment. I ride the bike everyday although sometimes it's only for 10 mins to work and back in the arvo, would riding short trips like that kill the battery?

Hey fatbat, it was running fine prior to the idling issue.

Could the battery loosing charge cause the bike to not idle.

Also, the codes I got from the bike were P0154 and B1006.

that first one is rear oxygen sensor, second one is related to accessory's, check all your connections out that go to speedo, battery ground, fuses, relays

and these:

ecm terminal pins

Fuel tank check valve

vehicle speed sensor

You may have to go through a number of things

Well I charged the bike back to full battery according to the charger. But once again as soon as I press the starting switch the power dies with a clack. Then the power won't come back on when I flick the ignition off then back on. I don't have a multi meter to check the battery. So I will have to throw it on a trailer and get it down to sy's harley.

Hopefully it don't cost too much to repair as it will eat into my ride budget for Uluru, oh well cheers for your help.

You could have a Cell in the battery collapsing. I have heard similar things happening when battery is about to shit itself. How old is battery. A mate had same thing happen a couple months ago, charged battery, all looked good, Then same thing happen. He bit the bullet and bought new battery, and Been Great ever since. But still would not hurt to check & Clean ALL relays & conections around battery area under seat, as slight moisture wont let a proper conection and current. I am betting on the Battery.
I also heard another guy, same thing. Trailered his bike to shop. They did not even take off trailer. Just fitted new Battery and perfect outcome.

If its only battery just go and buy one for piece of mind and change over, once you land at dealer you will be up for $1000 easy

Crank sensor needs to be checked also, search the net on it you will get heaps of hits

Holy shit. I didn't think it would cost that much to repair. Ill look into this myself a bit more I think.

how long have had the bike if its over 3 + years and its still the same battery good chance it is that and considering your bike is
6 years old it could be still the 1st battery

it was imported in 2011, so I reckon it got a new batt then. When I bought it in Jan, the bike wouldn't restart after a short ride. But once I rode from Melb to Geelong it was fine. Then the next day I rode back to Syd.I factered in a new battery when I bought it so I will put a new one in from battery world tomorrow arvo and hopefully that does the trick.

After it stuffed out on me, I hooked it up to my charger overnight and it said fully charged. Then I tried to start it again and it just clacked once and lost all power. I think it may have dropped a cell but I don't have a multimeter to check it. I will take the old battery to battery world and get it checked I think.
