Foolishly sold my '87 softail and got back into Guzzies. Looking forward to riding this beast. Should I clean out the tank. Lots of sludge. Guess u just sish around kero a few times?? Any help appreciated.

gday ya old bugger to bring your bike back online just do all the basic stuff , you can swish your tank around with kero but your last washout youd want to use some fresh fuel, oil and filter change all round check your battery to make sure its alright and charge/replace, change plugs and check leads for cracks, check your fuel lines for leaks and that should pretty much do you..if anyone has any more just chime in..the main thing is to enjoy your bike mate..

I would also strip the carby, or at least remove the float bowl.
A bit of oil in each cylinder, and crank a few times wont hurt either.

Thanks guys. I think good advice. Eager to have a look at this carby. Has cool S&S air filter but I can see Harley Davidson on it. Don't think S&S E type. Used to CV,s. All good. I find you form a bond with a bike when u trouble shoot it and work it up. You can read the history of previous owners too. Let you know when going. willl take photos. It is a rat. Don't mind ugly bikes as long as mechanically ok. Don't have money or time to impress.

Just on importing. Do not have dealer put new battery, fuel or oil in it. Just becomes "Dangerous goods". Also, specifically ask agent or dealer to clean/wipe leaks, tighten oil outlets. Mine got here messy and Quarantine and private cleaning firm ripped me off for $500 and 2 weeks as it was consideed a potential quarantine risk. Load of crap and I used to work for them. Try to get West Coast if staying here. Otherwise paying $1200 to put it on a truck across USA. If I did it again I would do it all myself and ride it to destination. Agent just makes easier by handing process. But you lose control. I wonder who is riding around with the brand new battery the shop put in?

Good forum. I am off with a "real" injury so might just live here if you'se don't mind. Checkya
