G'day fellas. A mate of mine with a '97 Fatboy, recently had the following work done...42mm carb, programable single fire ignition kit with ignition coil, EV51 cams, adjustable pushrods, new cam bearings and gaskets/seals and a new deep cycle battery. He rode the bike home and since has had trouble with it firing regularly . If put on the charger over night it wants to fire but wont. We can get it going at times with a power pack, but after say, a 1 hour ride if he turns off, it wont fire up again and we are back to push starting...Now it wont fire at all. It makes the same noise as a dickie starter motor in a car, but also it gives a thump sound when turning over like its under strain. Question??..Would this have any thing to do with needing manual decompression after having this work done on a bike of this era??...Or is the starter motor not up to scratch?? With a new deep cycle battery not firing it up, it has us scratching our heads. The bloke that did the work has since gone into receivership and can't be contacted. Any tips, clues, resolutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks fellas, and as always, have nice day.
