From their club history page: "BEARS is the acronym for British, European, American Racing and Supporters"

I don't know why, but I always had this strange notion that Britain was part of Europe. Guys, you could have avoided this redundancy by calling yourselves EARS! Ok, ok, I geddit, BEARS sound much more tough than EARS.

yes that acronym is correct . the reason british is listed seperate from europe is primarily BEARS racing goes back a long way, and was a bit of a Japaneese backlash of sorts. back when the brits made a lot of bikes that non jap riders wanted to ride. BEARS has been big in NZ for as long as ive been riding, although not a Kiwi i grew up there from a kid. i have been in a number of bears events over those years, they always had a big presence at Brass monkey rallies etc, and of course Brit Euro and American race days.

Having said that i have not been aware of BEARS in Australia and ive been here about 20 years this time.

If this is the BEARS that exists in NZ they would have the funds to conduct such a raffle...

not saying this isnt someones idea of a scam, i would think the real BEARS would be known to some of us, and if just starting up in Australia would have introduced themselves a lot better.

if it smells fishy, theres a 50% chance its fishy

So if BEARS charges for membership, how do you run a "for charity" raffle? NSW must have some weird laws.

Not absolutely sure on the rules but I thought public and publicly advertised raffles, prizes, ect had to have a government issued permit to conduct public money raising events that contain a prize and that permit number had to be advertised with the promotion, I presume that permit number is required by law for traceability, accountability and checking, ect.Maybe a permit number issued by the gaming and lotteries department or something to that effect ?

As there trying to gain money, wouldnt you think that they would of asked the moderaters first in case of any forum rules, ect and just to show a few manners.

Every raffle/prize home ect that comes in the mail to me has that permit no on the ticket flyer, In QLD anyway.

Maybe someone here knows the jist of it.

It takes only a couple of minutes to delve into the subject, yet people still think it sketchy!!!!

There is a complete section on their web site related to the raffle... the only thing they could have included was a copy of the ticket and the Raffle Licence #. I say that because that's how the MAD raffles in Perth were promoted.

By the way, for those that are still skepticle then ring Frasers. The web site states that the Raffle is a JV between Frasers and BEARS and that tickets can also be purchased at Frasers!!!!
