S&S 570 cams WOW

Just wanted to share this for anyone thinking of putting cams in.

Fred from Procycle dyno at Springwood has just installed S&S 570 cams to my stock 103 engine and dyno figures are 103.4 hp and 106 tq.

He told me that had been wanting to try these cams for some time and suggested I give them a go..

I was looking at something a little smaller but Fred convinced me to try them and i'm glad I did.

The only other work done is V&H Big shots, RSD air cleaner and Power vision tuner.

Fuel usage is not bad either, I think up to 300 ks out of a tank, havn't fully tested that yet. Trip computer says around 340 when I fill it.

    Cheers

Sweet!  Good to hear.  I had mine serviced at Pro Cycle last week and got to talking to Fred about cams and shit.  He suggested to me about the S&S 570s on my stock 96.  I know nothing about cams, as I am mechanically illiterate, and told Fred I would just give it to him and let him do what he thinks needs to be done.  I have already had it dyno'd there so Fred knows all about it.

Fred advised me that it would be easier to start with the 570s.

Will be interested to hear how you go now with those cams in as that will be my next improvement when I have a more certain cash flow.

They are chain drive not easy start.

I didn't need the easy start because the 103 has built in decompression when starting.

Does it change your gear ratio to speed at all?  What I mean is, in 3rd gear I can comfortably do 60km/h, in 4th I do 80, in 5th 100 and on the M1 6th for 110km/h.

Does it mess with that?  You mention it is a bit of a handfull around town.  So does that mean a lot of more revs with a bit of clutch engaged?  Have no idea what revs I am doing as I don't have a taco.

I shall keep your offer in mind.  I live out Ipswich way so bit of a hike :)

Doesn't matter what you do to your bike you always want more, IMO. The 570's sound like the go if you don't want to start machining the heads and increasing the compression. Defiantly more bang for your buck than the equivalent SE Cams.

Thanks Drac.  Your explanation was perfect.  It gives me something to think about.

    Thank you

    Hi,
I have a 06 Lowrider and decided to put a 2013 103" Stock Harley from a FXDB in it.

As still running all 06 electrics I decided to go S & S Easy Start 585's along with SE Aircleaner and Supertrap 2 into 1.
Getting 97+ HP and 104 FtLbs Torque on the dyno.

Very streetable but like all bikes has a few issues with the fuckin unbelievable number of speed limits we have,
    30,50,60.70,80,90,100,110
For gods sake how is any bike gunna be happy at each of these speeds.
But all in all very happy with what I got.

I ride 50/50 town and country so needed something that doesn't mind the stop start.
Next purchase will be a oil cooler though.

hi guys , a single item  doesnt make a eng go ,a comment was made  earlier in  this thread about se cams being shit , ???   , se cams , ? i threw together 2 builds  recently , 2006 softail 88 cub , fitted 10.25 comp . se 211 cams , heads intake ported time and manifold runners opened up , 3 hrs work with few beers  , on intake system , results were 97.5 hp at 6000 rpm with factory headers ,and s/s tappered turbo mufflers , pc 3 tuner , second was evo 82 cub , heads worked by my self and flowed , s/s intake mick 42 carby etc , this eng eng went 96.5 hp at 5700 rpm with se 57 cam also , there are 10 items to minimun to have right to  build good engine , when you work them out and combine them then you should have strong eng , to single out a brand name  item and say its no good , ? , most builds i have to tidy up have may be 5 items some were near right , most companys make items that do work , but so much else has to be right also , my self i  have had good results with most brands , attention to detail on the build is what makes some better than others , i see combos way of the mark alot at my place ,  tuners do the best they can with the clients build , but the old saying is you cant make strawberry jam out of pig shit , i have had great  results with most cams that i am allowed to do build on , my own 2 bikes have done well over 3000 + max hp runs with all sorts of combos , chaseing hp , and then clients bikes also , i guess what i am saying is that most items out there are good, i have had some great build engines here only to see the exhaust system killing it ,or  intake system to restrictive ,and  which it  has 4 componets before it even reachs the ports to get  right ,and on and on it goes ,  dont discount what you have ,  but some of it maybe not be right , any way have fun with your builds dudes , catch ya "s

Thought I'd give an up date on the cams now I've done about 5000 ks of mixed riding with them.
Good mileage, between 270 and 300 ks.
Definitely pulls harder down low and really gets going over 3000 rpm. have to try and contain myself with the amount of unmarked cop cars around here. No tickets yet, I hope.
Getting used to the decel below 2000 rpm, pretty much have to down shift or pull the clutch a little earlier to avoid the cam hop jerking or what ever you want to call it.
Tried adding and subtracting fuel in that area but makes little or no difference.
Ya just have to get used to it I guess and ride accordingly.
I rode a mates 96 cube Fatboy with slightly smaller cams last week and it does it too, so I guess it is what it is.
I haven't had cams in a Harley before so I didn't know how they behave. Had plenty of hot cars and they are quite different to a v twin in every aspect.
Anyway, I like it a lot.
On another note, getting a new Pirelli Night Dragon rear tyre fitted today, great tyre, got almost 14000 ks. out of the last one.
I don't expect I'll get that mileage out of the next one because I noticed it wearing a bit quicker since the cams went in.
    Strange that!

    Cheers

Gday mate, so Your last tyre that you got almost 14k from was a night dragon too?

    Yeh, very happy with them.

Got one on the front too, the only thing I noticed on the front was a slight buzzing vibration at 70 ks which is barely noticable.

I went back and had them re balance it but its still there, I think its the tread pattern.

The rear didnt wear flat in the middle like most and they grip really well.

I talked a mate into putting them on his hot softail and he doesn't like em because they grip too well when he tries to do a burnout.

He's a bit crazy, 5 rear tyres in 8000 ks.

    Cheers.

I quiet enjoy the cams being lumpy at low rpm and speeds. It's kind of the point to having a hot engine. When you get to know your bike it's not an issue. It's also great when you feel the surge when they hit their sweet spot which also give it an indervidual sound.
