Ive been thinking of trading in the softail for a new road king for a couple of weeks now .a mate of mine reckons they are a old mans bike.im in my late 30s and that made me wonder what the average age of of tourer riders is?

Mate, age doesn't matter, it's what's your comfortable with.

I've had bikes since I could walk, swore I'd  never buy a bagger, but the missus wanted to ride so got her a 883 custom. Whilst there took a Road King Classic out, bought it the next week and sold the CBR1100 Blackbird. That was 5 years ago when I was 40, done lots of mods since, chrome, stage 1, sundowner seat, just did 14" Wild 1 apes. It's a sweet comfortable ride with more then enough balls when you want to crank the throttle.

Couldnt be happier, wish I switched to the Roady years earlier.

As others have said, ride what you want. I can keep up with most Harleys and I surprise others. Your mates will be jealous when you do it in style to.

66 now but I've only ever had Road Kings since I've been riding Harleys. I was 55 (EDIT: should read 50) when I bought my first one. I might add that I have two Gold Wings in the stable as well. I have a '95 GL1500 and an '05 GL1800. All three are great bikes to ride.

Don't let age colour your choice, mate. The Road Kings are a great ride whatever your age and will cover big miles more comfortably than some other models, so I'm told. As said above, I've only had Road Kings.

Loved my old softail Heritage but th RK leaves it for dead. Rides like its on rails compared to the softy. Age has nothing to do with it. 52 now and can ride the RK harder (2 up mostly) and can still push most softies and dynas no probs. The new tourers are one of the best handling harleys by a mile. Cool or not. Who cares when its about the ride. Your only as old as you feel.

Onto that, keith. I want to be still on my bikes when I'm up there. One of my basic plans is to live forever...............so far so good. Second plan is to find out where I gonna die then I'm not bloody going there............but you're right, age is no barrier, that is of course until the worn out body catches up with you.surprise

This is the most ridiculous thread I have read. Who gives a rat's arse how old you are and what you ride. I'm 46, drag a knee around most corners at Eastern Creek on an R1 and ride a tourer as well as a Deluxe. I certainly don't seek permission to ride anything!

You'll love it, Snakeman. On mine I have the HD pillow look touring seat, rider backrest and sissy bar, forward controls, Flanders Road Glide bars to pull the bars closer to the rider (buggered shoulders). Gotta towbar too, for the occasional towing of the camping gear in my Classic trailer but with the bride not enjoying the best of health I don't get to camp much at all these days.
