Harley hire business

Been thinking for a while, why cant you hire bikes easy? its a legit business with good tax breaks, you can even buy bikes using tax cuts.

i guess the hardest part would be breakdowns, but there are plenty of mobs across australia keen to do breakdown repairs and you could ship the renter another bike pretty much straight away.

GPS allows you to keep an eye on her.

pretty low startup costs. mechanical are done by you. run from home or small factory. sell them riding gear or hire. trikes only need car licence. recommend places to stop(more kick backs). then when they come back offer the bike at 12% on 5yr terms lol/

Are you asking for ideas or is this something you are toying with?

Insurance is a killer for anything other than 3rd party property damage for self ride hire bikes which I suspect is why most hire bikes in Australia are old, cheap pieces of worn out crap.

Perth WA is the only major capital city in the western world where the franchised HD dealer does not go Harley's own " Fly and Ride " programme

I asked the question  'Why ?" nearly 20 years ago and was told " Because the bikies will steal them "

There was a "bikie related" shop that did do Harley hire for self ride way back then , but even those bikes were well rough at the time

From memory there was a $5K " deposit " even then , non returnable if you dumped the bike , or if it was " stolen"

There are a coupla places doing it in Perth now I think, but as mentiond the stress must be MEGA

I did car hire in the UK for a few years in the mid 80's , and that was grief enough , cunts not returning the car , police having no interest because " you gave the car willingly to them ". Myself and my brothers were quite proactive in " repo-ing" our own cars , but even that was legally dodgy believe it or not and we had to "steal" them back with the spare keys and suffer the loss of the original set.

The dolly birds in the local Hertz office were in awe of our prowess in recovering our own cars haha...they couldn't / wouldn't do that

That put me off the prospect of running bike ( Harley )  hire for ever

Breakdowns are not the hardest part

The hardest part is coughing up 5K+ every time some tard drops the bike
    then theres theft.

This is why bike rentals and car rentals are so different, the risk and expense with bikes is just to high.

sorry fellas been away a few days,

im not interested in the bike hire industry as a business for myself, I am however associated within the tourist industry and from my limited knowledge I have found a complete lack of bike hire resources not only in Melbourne but country wide.

I am also awaiting on a bike from the good old and am bikeless until then, I would hire if there was an outfit available.

choppaweeza I was going to do one of those US tours this year but with an unexpected baby on the way it fucked things right up, maybe we can learn from the US industry.

I pretty much understand what you have all said but with Australia growing and many many bike shops and builders appearing, people with similar could easily hire a manager to run a hire business from under the same roof, or invest in a new business for the love of the bike. insurance insurance, well consumer pays and I believe the consumer would pay.

    We're here!
EagleRider Sydney opened in December and Brisbane in January. We have another Queensland location opening soon and hope to be in Perth and Melbourne by the years end. Currently we only hire Harley-Davidson motorcycles (we have a combined fleet of 26) but we are growing and will have more bikes and more brands. You can check us out at eaglerider.com.au
