FLHTK Compensator upgrade

    Hey Folks,

I'm in the prcoess of changing my standard, flogged out compensator. She was getting pretty clacky so a closer inspection was the go ... glad I did. All bolts and such were torqued nicely but the stub shaft had given up the ghost. The wear pattern on it was a bit unusual ... meh

Not sure whether to go SE or the 2014 retrofit upgrade ... I'm assuming there's a difference between the two as the price would indicate.

My main concern is performance and longevity of either kit ... anyone got any experience with either?

The 2014 bikes all come with the SE compensator as stock & is also the replacement for the '07 + bikes I believe. You will need Harley pn 42200064A (superceeds 42200064) & rotor pn 30041-08.
A glue is also required to fix the plastic funnel inside the primary cover, but rather than buy it from Harley, I believe you can buy the same adhesive elsewhere, which is called Lord Maxlok MX/T6 Acrylic Adhesive. I'd say there would be other equiverlents- Rob

Cheers for clarifying that. I got some mixed messages from a couple of suppliers as to the need for replacing the rotor so this made me wonder if there was a difference.

Managed to get the SE big twin compensator fitting instructions so its all pretty clear now.

Thanks for the advice on the adhesive as well ...

Not sure how to attach PDF file, so google SE 42200064A which is the part number, or J05885 for the PDF file. - Rob

    Hey Craig,

Apologies for not getting back earlier. I'm not sure of the difference with softails but you'll be blown away with the difference it makes and how easy it is to change.

If you need to fit the plastic oil tray, the kit will come with the glue cartridge but not the applicator gun. I got around this by using long nose pliers to plunge the glue out. Alternatively you can purchase the gun but f*** knows how much that'll cost.

Definitely follow the manual's instructions and torque settings etc.

Unfortunately I've cleaned up and don't have the paperwork anymore but i'm sure Kiwi Rob's advice will produce. If you need some more info pm me so we can arrange a chat.

    Regards,

    Tony
