Hi I'm going fireplace the inner cam bearing in my two evo's one is a 92 and the other is a 96 model. I know I have to buy the cam bearing tool to remove the bearing but is there any tricks to doing this. I've built heaps of v8 motor before but never worked on a HD motor as in going inside the motor. What will I need and what problems will I have when doing this and will I need different gasket kit for both. I'm thinking of putting a high torque cam in the softail when I do the bearings. The 96 dyna has 50,000kms on the clock so it needs to be done and the 92 softail has 17,000kms on the clock but I'm going to do it anyway just so I know it's got a Torrington bearing in it as I've been told by a few people that the 92 did and didn't come out with the Torrington bearing in the cam. Any help or pointers would be helpful. Thanks for reading this and I hope to get some good replies so I know what I'm getting into. I'm sure someone has done this before.
cam cover gasket change in 94 only differance is for the breather well , replace cam followers or wheels @least, 96 model did not have the torrington either , they do a bearing install tool or if carefull you can use the old 2 cams 1 with gear 1 without gear on to push the bearing in but be carefull
if you have a wineing noise from the cam chest yes the inner bearing is shitting itself so be carefull pulling it out lean bike over slight ly to the right bank use grease in bearing 1st to catch the broken bits
