Hi guys hoping for some advice.
Ive just sold my CVO 09 Fatbob (stock 110 engine) and have decided to build up an old school style in a 2006 Softail springer 88" factory 200 rear end. Just purchased. The bike is essentially stock as a rock with V&H radius pipes.
A reputable engine builder has recommended an S&S 117" kit as I had considered a complete S&S TC engine but its not available for the 2006 88b.
So far Im looking at a complete S&S 117 top end kit inc B2 heads (cc to be worked out). Possibly Darkhorse crank/rod assy, Timken case retained bearing, S&S hi vol oil pump and a S&S 585 gear drive cams are up for consideration. The compression will be approx 10.2 to 10.5 to 1. max. 52mm throttle body with injectors to suit. And anything else it needs?
The bike will be riden 1 up only. Im looking for big low down torque with a strong mid range say 2500 - 4500 rpm. Bike would most likely never see the redline. If anyone has built up a 117" Im really keen to discuss compression and cam choices. S&S, Andrews and Woods camshafts all shine in the forum posts but I know its the specific application of the grind that either works in an engine or runs like a dog.
All that will be left of the 88 I think will be the stock HD cases.
Any input really appreciated. Cheers
On the surface, I would think twice about using B2 heads on a 117, especially for the power you want.
Not to mention you will need a custom exhaust to suit, and probably intake as well.
Your correct on the heads B2 seem to be designed for the T124" S&S. They are taller as well.
From the S&S catalog it looks like the choices are either 89cc @ 10.5:1 or 91cc @ 10.2:1
Finally have made the decision to upgrade my stock 88TC Springer with a full S&S 124 cu in kit. Engine will feature S&S barrels with flat top forged piston set, S&S forged stroker crank, Timken bearing & casing retainer, S&S 91cc heads, Fueling race lifters, 585 gear drive cams, S&S hi vol billet oil pump, Kuryakin 57mm throttle body & intake, S&S super teardrop air filter kit, heavy duty clutch, Russell floating front disc with 4 spot Performance Machine billet caliper, HD softail oil cooler kit etc etc.
Im hoping for 120tq/120hp which I think may be reasonable to acheive. The torque delivery from the 585 cams lands mid power range (2500 - 5500rpm) which suits my ride. Bike will look a real sleeper as its quite stock in appearance and will still appear much the same.
Pics as soon as work begins this month.
hi i have tc 116 s/s kit black high lite with crank b model softail , barrels pistons super stock heads , rocker boxes chrome , lifters push rods gaskets 625 gear drive cam rockers boxes etc , complete top end kit ,all these items are new , and all s/s , as speedster said , the b-2 heads are large port large valve , not correct sizing for torque eng , also the b-2 manifold doesnt come in injected model normally, so you have have it modified in states at hpi to accept injector tubes etc buy fuel rail and pre 2005 injectors to suit the mods , i have had 2 done and they wernt cheap , i havent looked in to wether the latter throttle hog hvae been made to suit , for $ 300 extra can supply kit with 124 barrels pistons 10.5 comp gaskets , cheers
Post up a pic of the brakes, sounds awesome. Twin disc Brembo would be as good as it gets. I think twin discs arent on the menu for springers, even the front wheel is offset.
My ex CVO Dyna Fatbob ran the twin HD discs and it pulled up nice. They were actually pretty tame with a smooth action.
The Fatbob twin discs work really well. Nice and progressive. I already had Factory twin discs, but the Brembo's are still a nice upgrade.
Nothing much to look at, but they work !
Neat setup. Are the Brembos a 4 spot caliper made for HD as a genuine accessory/upgrade?
I reckon its time I updated my engine build post.
The intended 117 has made way for more cubes. Went the whole enchilada in the form of the S&S 124 cu in.
My thanks goes to Brian and the team at EBT . It's Brian's expertise and absolute attention to detail that ticks every box in my book. Being kept informed and involved throughout the build gives you the confidence that all the hard earned big ones spent are giving the best value for money relative to your budget.
The engine specs as I best remember (bike has been in the shop for the winter months) never rush a good thing..........
Original 88 cases machined and bored for 124 S&S barrels with Timken conversion
124 S&S barrels with matching forged flat top pistons, 124 S&S superstock heads (11:1 cc'd to 10.6:1)
S&S 124 stroker balanced crank assy, 585 S&S gear drive cams (easy start)
S&S roller rockers, Fueling race lifters, S&S adjustable pushrods
S&S 57mm throttle body and matched intake manifold. S&S Super teardrop aircleaner assy, K&N air filter element
S&S HV billet oil pump, HD rocker boxes machined for rocker clearance
HD premium oil cooler assy, HD SE clutch spring, Twin Power alternator rotor
Performance machine 4 pot billet brake caliper, Russell floating disc, Barnett braided cables
Waiting for the correct (Springer) Russell front disc and the Twin power alternator rotor and its getting close to dyno time. Hoping for 120tq/120hp from the beast.
