So I've decided I want to change my own engine oil on an 08 Night train, and for my own reasons wish to remove return oil line to tank and purge systems... easy.

Rather than ask the questions here, thought I'd put in some research over the last couple of months + websites + youtube and have a fair idea of whats required and how to do.... easy.

Had time to burn in town this morning so eye balled required tool from auto shop - check,  and for some reason thought I'd also ask the local HD dealer about the HD tool thats available.... and here's how it go's...

New kid behind counter...I'm cool with that... he confesses to know nothing, I write down my request and handballs to parts guy (when he's free). Inbetween the owner jumps in with "sorry we don't lend tools, you'll have to order the tool, we've got our own tool but you'll have to get your own, maybe we can order one in special, we'll get ya a price". (think he missed the point about me coming in to buy the tool, but thanks for the rant anyway).

Anywho... the parts guy is now free... we converse... he gives a Hmmmm??? and BRB, arrives with a mechanic, directs me to the nearest showroom softail, demonstrates removal of cover, then fingers to remove clip... to easy...wtf!!!

So.... my point is.... I shoulda just asked you guys (the forum), taken the hits... (eg: go buy a manual), but I'm all ears as to any other opinions as to the removal of a return oil line on an 08 Nightrain.

PS: Normally I'd just mess with shit till I work it out or it breaks but I don't have access to my bike for a while, hence the research.

Super Cheap has the tool you need. It's for auto air con fluid line remover. Comes in a pack of about 6 or 8 IIR. Can be tricky when you re-install lines, as the seals can leak after reconnecting to tank. You can remove the lines without the tool, by skeezing the two tabs together that hold the line in the tank, but can't remember if the two seals & the spacer ring stays in the tank or comes out with the line/tube.- Rob

Cheers KiwiRob... by coincidence I tripped over your post from 2011 last night.
I'll tool up for the job on a "just in case" basis cause theres nothin worse than gettin half way through and needin your wheels back to trip down to the corner store.... again! It'll all make sense on the day. (might even video and post it, cause I found nothin to date on this procedure). - Derek
