Any one know what the minimum recommended chain-tyre clearances should be?

    thanks

Did one on the weekend, tyre clears the chain by 12mm. I saw one once that was getting polished by the tyre, I reckon thats a bit close! What bike/tyre combo are you doing?

    Thanks Burnzi

    Do you think 3 - 4mm sufficient??

    Anyone else?

3-4mm is very close. I'd want more than that for peace of mind

I reckon a 6-8mm spacer front and rear would make ya happier.

what burnzi said min 6mm tyre to chain clearance remember the tyre grows when hot , if it was a belt I would say 5 but you want a bit more with chain
the last thing you want is for it to bite the tyre

or use a non o'ring type , just keep it clean & well oiled/greased, latest built stock raked kunckle frame with a 180 rear , 520 spockets & good non o'ring chain ,  we use to run them on the old 883 roaring sporty roadracing bikes  with aluminium rear sprockets

    thanks guys for the inputs

I'm running a firestone 500-16 and probably only have 3-4 mm lateral clearance especially since this tyre and chain will flex

Iooks like I need to space the sprockets out - +/- 8mm should do it???

    cheers

4m.m. will pass , string line the rear wheel , keep the chain well adjusted  ,   with you sitting on the bike
