Supertuner request below sorry !!
Either the site or my laptop are playing up tonight sorry ! This question is for the " Supertuner" experts on the site
Here in Perth Western Australia I've just bought a "used" 2013 CVO Breakout , only 4,500 Kilometres
The bike had had a " Screamin eagle Pro 110 performance upgrade kit " installed from day 1 by the supplying HD dealer ( That's 10.5:1 pistons , 259E cams , perfect fit pushrods and a Supertuner , gaskets etc etc , all as a "boxed kit" ) Bike also has Freedom Performance Declaration turnouts , a true dual exhaust setup . Now I yesterday used the Supertuner VCI to download and check the installed calibration. ( I'm a TTS guy up until now , and I'm very familiar with their setup and calibrations , but this bike has the Supertuner already so the dollars are spent and I'll be re-educating myself to the "Harley" product ) I found the downloaded cal to be the Calbrations file cal for a " 2013 CVO Softail with 255 cams " ( ie the stock cams !!) , and that there is no Cal for 259e cams in a 110 cube Softail. ( Such cals do exist for the "TOURING PLATFORM" BIKES .)
Basically it's just the canned calibration for "stock" CVO cams and pistons ?? Eventually I got thru' to the supplying dealer and they had used that Calibration to "Stop the decel popping and to get it to run good".... Yeah right !! This cal is 025CAY004 In reality the bike is VERY flat low down in the revs , indeed my 2008 CVO Springer would SPANK it in a runoff and it's 100% CVO stock other than V&H Big Shot Staggered exhaust ! TTS tuned by me already. So my question(s) are: 1) Why no cal in the cal file list for a 2013 CVO Softail with 259 cams and 10.5:1 pistons which is sold as a kit ? 2) Which cal should I be trying ? There is a Supertuner cal for a "Touring" bike which like the Breakout has a DBW throttle that has all of the build components of the "Upgrade kit " . Can "Touring" cals be put into other platforms with Supertuner ? I used to use Touring cals in Dynas and Softails all the time back in the cable throttle days. 3) Can I "build" a calibration ? Looks to be so in the Tuning files but I can't see how to do it ? I can see the build menu but beyond listing all the specs ?? Thanks in advance from Perth gents , awaiting your helpful replies
I wouldn't think there would be a problem installing the " Touring " cal,
In fact I would think that for the CVO 110 it would have to be a lot closer than what is installed at present.
Stock CVO 110's are all the same aren't they ? only diff between a touring rig and the others would be the weight difference.
You can account for that with as you say, building your own cal, or performing a " smart tune " .
Provision for editing the engines properties is there when setting it up.
I'd whack the touring cal in and give it a try,, you still got the original on file if it turns out sour.
so answers to your questions;
1. fucknows, Harley logic,,,
2. The touring cal, it lists the cams and comp ratio that you have and will be closer than the stock Breakout cal.
3. Yes, as Hilly says, open it and enter the required fields to as close as possible to create your base.
Hi Guys,
Just finished a full SE Pro Tuner Custom Advance map on the same bike and cam combo. This one had a 2 into 1 exhaust though. There were no good starting point cals that were even close. The one that was loaded in the bike prior was on engine distruction mode. Really had to creep up on the tune and take it careful. It was a massive job but the end result was really worth the time and effort. Just on 7 hours. My sugestion is put it on the Dyno with no time restraints and fully tune both cylinders. Within 2 minutes into the test ride I realised we had made some awesome changes to the bike. It felt responsive , strong and so much smoother than when it arrived. Cant wait to hand the bike back to the owner.
Cheers Brian
