hi , i'm a first time thundermax tuner , ive just finished building my motor , 95ci , 10.5 to 1 comp pistons , flowed heads with oversize valves , andrews 55h cams , stock headers with sonic slip on mufflers , i set thundermax up with map 457 , ran reasonable , ive done a few rides , then read learned AFR,s , come back with AFR,s of 19.1 , know thats lean , i'm not sure how to go about , changing my base map to get the afrs close to my desired 13 , any ideas or does anyone no off a good tuner in victoria around the melborne area that i can take my bike to to get it sorted , cheers mick

hey scotty , if i tick the afr overide box , is it still in closed loop , and on the other hand if i untick it how do i determen what afr seetings the map ive choosen has , i'm very inexperanced with this , so any advice is great

hey scotty , in the area of air/fuel ratio vs TPS i was reading that i can change the afr at 3 quater to full throttle (or any other positioning for that matter), keeping afr of base map for the rest of the throttle positioning , hopefully keeping cruising fuel efficintcy / against screw on power /have you tinkered with this , if so to what out come ? also after my map has learned to where i'm happy with it can i write learned learned fuel adjustments and save them to my base map , in so closing my learning percentage down to minimum , cheers

    Scotty,
First time post here. I have had the Tmax now for 6 months and would like to tune it for a bit more cruising economy. I am running map 401 in standard form and have d/loaded the latest s/ware from Zippers.
As I don't have a taco, at what rpm should I start to lower my Air/fuel v TPS settings ? to achieve this result.?

Ok so I'm stupid !    So I link to the bike, read the current map and open the RPM / AFR / throttle position,  graph for the RPM range I wish to lean out.

So where on the graph do I actually start leaning out and where do I finish?

I know I need to move the little squares up to nearer  13.9 but its doing my head trying to figure it out! I must have read the manual twenty times!

I know that any marks I move take effect straight away, and I can paste and copy them to the other RPM ranges.

Sorry if this has been answered before but I've searched a few HD forums but still am stumped.

A screenshot  or a map that has been modified that I can look at would be good, or just a "simple " explanation?

ive had great results with my engine , increase in performance by redoing the afr @ tps , iset mine starting at around 1500 rpms from about ten degrees throttle position i set the afr at 13  flat right through from about 15 degress throttle, i set this all the way through the rev range up till 3800 then i leaned it out to 13.5 till full rev range , i found i picked up more horsepower , i also retarded the overall engine timing 2 degrees , found my motor reved freer , not sure if this will help anyone else but i throught i might share this imformation

Looking at a Thundermax for my Street Bob, I have S&S slips ons fitted , and an Arlen Ness Air cleaner assembly in the shed ready, other than that all stock. What are the overall benefits of a thundermax?

Better running, cooler running, HP gains if any?

thomo , i carn't answer that question i don't run a stock engine , but ive heard that the thundermax can make a difference to stock engines , more importantly if you do more mods to your engine its easly tuned but if your not going to make more mods you could find a much cheaper alterantive ,talk to your harley shop and other tuners in your area and get as many opions on which way to go , e.g sert , power commander , its all about what you want to get out of your bike , also every one has an opion on which works best , i'm still not totally won over on the thundermax , but hey which way do you go , best of luck working it out

After my last question to you regarding AFR @ RPM adjustments earlier from this thread.
I have now ran 3 or 4 tanks of fuel through the bike and my fuel consumption has gone up!
I know the fuel light can vary at when it comes on, but prior to adjusting for weaker AFR at cruising revs/speeds I am now only getting around 200klms per fill!
Before playing with it I was getting 230klms average, which I thought was bad!
    What am I doing wrong?
I am running map 401, and otherwise it runs great. I drive it quite conservatively being a retiree so its not my right hand thats the problem!
    Am I expecting too much?
Be interested what other get approx fuel economy.

Well the new map is in and up and running! will give it a couple of tankfulls to see how it goes.Rode it last night to get some fuel and it appeared to run fine. A little popping on decel but I can live with that.

Will post again in a couple of weeks.

    Thanks for your help.
