Calm down guys! It's healthy to get everyone's opinions, I asked the question to get just that! Why do I need to reveal the name of the shop, how does that help? I'm not trying to bag anyone,I'm trying to simply get information about a topic that appears to be very grey with no real right or wrong answers. I'll pay a shop to do it if I think that's the best way to do it, but like all of you, I want to know what bang I'm getting for my buck! I do appreciate all the opinions, thank you.
Cheers NR
OP = Original poster
Oh ok Original Poster! Got it. Shows how 'up with it I am as far as abbreviations'
Thanks Steelo!
Just for the record Muzza I don't think that choppaweeza was calling anyone out at least that's not how I interpreted it, just the attitude in general (but I can't and won't speak for anyone else of course) just interperate what I read. Chill bruv, it's ages and I think the main theme from this old post was the info people can get from reading through it from a bunch of people that have gone through or know the processes.
What's "bruv" ?
Go easy on Muzza, he just found a thread relevant to his concerns and asked for a few details. One of the original bones of contention in my original post was that I alluded to a particular shop making claims of millions of changes being needed for compliance, and without naming the shop asked if this was common practice. Some tried to have some fun asking me to name the shop, but thy shut up quickly when I made a decent case for not naming based on slim experience. And ultimately that is the real point in three threads. We all have particular experiences and those experiences can sometimes help others. My advice remains the same that, based on my experience, the certification process is rife with over-charging. Gee, the VASS compliance engineer I used in Melbourne said as much, basically saying the licensing costs were passed on in high margin requests for changes. I saved both uneccesary changes and a to me of money personally importing my 1992 FXR and diverting RWC and ADR compliance from each other. End of story. If my experience is relevant to another's situation, great; if not, move on and use an importer service. And by the way, why is it I got grilled for not naming a shop but importing services get a free pass for not giving any details of horror stories where they claim importing services are half the cost of doing it yourself?! Like I said, I think importing is rife with shoddy practices revolving around unecessary changes.
