Hi guys, I recently bought a Softail which has been sitting for a while. It has got a bit of surface rust on the chrome rims mainly around the valves and along the ridges. There is rust in the hard to reach areas such as on bolts and in the joints of the handlebars forks etc. What do you all recommend I use to remove the rust and polish up the chrome? Cheers Jack
Hi there, welcome to the board. Congrats on the purchase of your softail. I had a similar issue with my deuce. Funnily enough only on the high side and in one area (where it has been standing and holding water.)
I used bunched up Aluminium cooking foil and copious amounts of water. Just rub softly on the affected areas and the rust will be scoured away. Something about the foil being harder than rust and softer than chrome. Put some good polish over the top else it will rust again. You can't get rid of it, just remove it. The chrome will always be flawed and pitted though.
Good luck
