One of the cables has broken at the actual switch.

Normal Harley Handle bar Controls. On/Off, Start, hold Down for indicator Controls.

Pulled it down to fix or reterminate the lead and found its sealed FFS.

Any clues guys? or do I just go out and buy a new complete set.

I thought it was. But I ended up opening the switch capsule itself and the cable is terminated as a not repairable item.
I wish I could re terminate it but its just not viable. Looks to me like its a 1998 or so switch housing not earlier.
Bikes an 84 EVO. Looks like I'll have to buy the set I'd say or see if Chopa has any second hand ones for sale.

I re-soldered my brake light wires to the brake light switch in the handlebars on a '94.....
