Anyone replaced stock clutch plates, (friction and steel ),  on a late model bike with Energy One , Barnetts , or SE Perfromance clutch kits.  If so , just like your opinions,  and a heads up on the install, as there seems to be some components not installed  compared to the stock clutch plates,  ie, Damper spring, Damper spring seat,  1x Narrow friction plate.   !!

I started a thread  in the touring section , but no replies, thought I'd put it up here !!    cheers Mark         My bike is a 2009 flht electra glide.

Replaced stock plates, about 12 months ago, with the Energy One extra plate kit. Along with the SE diaphragm spring, it is holding up well to the 113" TC I installed @ the same time. - Rob

Thanks for your reply Rob, I didn't think I was going to get any !!!
Just some info I've found out, if I was going to replace clutch with stock friction and steel plates, (9 x friction and 8 x steel ) , the total cost would be approx. $380. (Also what is confusing, the Narrow Friction plate in the stock kit is included in the 9 x friction plates.). This is where I got confused, from the manuals diagram you can think that there are 9 x friction plus 1 x Narrow friction = 10 friction plates , which is incorrect .!!
The SE Performance Clutch Kit 37980-10 which does away with the Damper Spring , the Damper Spring Seat and the Narrow friction plate, and they say is of superior material , cost approx. $226. This kit is 9x friction and 8 x steel plates only. The plates are thicker to accomadate the space left by the deleted items mentioned .

I was recommended the Energy One clutch kit, (9 x friction and 8 x steel ) , similar to the SE clutch kit set up, and they cost approx $150. Go figure !!!!

You can also buy the "Extra Plate Kit , ie. 10 x friction plates. This just means you have more friction plates , (Good for modified motors), but they are more narrow than in the 9 x friction disc kit, so they can fit in the clutch hub the same.

Here I am rambling on about clutch kits and I only got one reply from good old KiwiRob. This topic doesn't seem to be the flavour of the month !! Ah well, at least I know more about clutches and clutch kits than I did before !!!!!

Cheers Lads , ride safe .

I'll check latter about the full number of plates in the stock set, as I have them sitting on the shelf after installing the + 1 kit. I believe Alto in the USA make all the clutch plates for all the US clutch companys, & possibly HD. I haven't checked their catalogue as yet. - Rob

Thanks for your info Rob. It's like a own private clutch kit information thread !!!
I'm still amazed that the Stock Clutch Kit,(friction and steel), is $ 160 more expensive than the so called upgraded SE Performance Clutch Kit, (friction and steels).

If anyone out there may know the answer, or have an opinion on that, please feel free to crash Rob and my private thread !!!!

    Cheers.
