    G'day,

I'm becoming frustrated by the lack of compatibility and variety when it comes to exhausts for the early sportsters, particularly for my 1990 xl1200. A lot of what i see on the shelf is for 2004 and later, and i have recently fount a set of hooker troublemakers (2007 and later) that i would like to buy, but not sure of exactly what is different. So, is it the flanges, pipe diametre, or is it the bracketry that is different? If i buy them, how can i make them fit?

    Cheers

Wouldnt a good exhaust shop be able to smash this out for you..

Ok , Any EVO sportster Pipes will bolt on to your Heads, 2004 and up bikes have Rubber mounted Engines and 2007 are the same Pipes with a C02 port. They will fit your bike but you will have to make up a new bottom bracket, you will also find that they will be very close to the Rear Brake Master Cly as 2004 and up Bikes have the Master Mounted on the Swing Arm, 2007 and up Pipes also have a C02 Port that you would have to Plug,,,,,,,,,,,

And PEP find a new bike to use as a Avatar

Thats awkward, not the only set of troublemakers in question on this thread...

Mate what do you mean by smash it out? Fitting or making them from scratch. If fitting, no issue doing them at home just wanted to make sure they would at least bolt to the head.

Walka, as you obviously have these pipes (not sure if still the bike), how close would they be to the M/C? Are we talking fouling or just close. What about heat soak? I expected these to have an O2 sensor or similar being injected, and as for the bottom bracket i can make something up fairly easy. What about overall clearance to the rest of the bike?

    Cheers

I just checked my 2006, between the Sprocket Cover and the Exhaust Bracket Bolts I'm the area where your Master Cyl is I have 40 mm, , if you changed the bolts to counter sunk it mite pick up 10 mm . I also got a spare early Master Cly on the shelf , it's 40 mm wide

It wouldn't be hard to move the master cylinder.

Nah don't be silly mate I value the feedback. And yeah an exhaust shop could help if I got stuck but I'm more worried about the pipes being compatible first and foremost. So at this stage I know that they will bolt to my heads, but there might be an issue with clearance. Now I have forward controls so that helps, but what about gaskets, flanges and nuts etc? These don't come with anything extra so will my existing gaskets, flanges and nuts work with these pipes?

What are they worth nowadays anyway? Retail?

Thats what it looks like. Maybe i need a brake pedal that pivots on the peg itself? They are weird forwards.
