By way of introduction, I riden all my life up until now its been mainly on Ducsti's but as a result of an accumulation of life changing events I'm about to embark on a new riding chapter. I'm yet to buy my Harley Davidson, but are looking favourably towards the Fat Bob, but I suspect the Road King or Street Glide is going to be more practical.

I plan to do a lot of Ks, looking at the HOG annual Rally and Ulysses AGM just for starters. In addition to the two pairs of socks and a spare T-Shirt I will also need to carry my Assistant Dog, idealy I would like to carry him as a pillion passenger; however I think a trailer or side car would be more practical? Does anyone have any experience with either of these options? Has anyone here carried a dog on their HD?

This is an exciting time for me with a number of important choices to be made any assistance, suggestion or otherwise welcome

Welcome mate. Street glide would be my pick if doing runs. The street glide fairing, hard bags and music pumping out the speakers wold make touring very easy. Consider a trailer for the pooch and camping gear as it might be more practical and easier to attach/detach quickly. Plus it'll still ride like a bike as opposed to a sidecar.

Fatbat, I'm certainly leaning towards the trailer option over the sidecar as per your reasoning. Handling wise how does the FB vary from the SG? Could I put a Bat Wing fairing on a FB and achieve the same effect?

Mate all I know is that the best deal second hand street glide is in the act on bike sales right now. And I've got nothing to do with it. But if I had 22/23k to spend it'd be mine. There's a lot more bike in a street glide than a fat bob. But you'd need to check both models out, test rides and work out the pros and cons.

Welcome mate, go the street glide, love mine for the long runs but does feel out of sorts in stop start traffic.
