Mirror flip on 2014 883 - Am I missing something?

I've been toying with the idea of flipping my mirrors, but all the youtube videos I watched etc are all for pre-2014 Irons.  They make it look easy and the turn indicators are just moved slightly and it's all good to go.

And then I look at my 2014 model.  I'm struggling to see how flipping (and switching L to R etc) will work on my Iron because the indicators are on these little stick things and I just can't see how they can swivel out of the way enough to allow the mirror sticks to fit in between things without the turn signals pointing inwards at a weird angle.

I asked Peter Stevens today and was told that I shouldn't even attempt it and it wouldn't work and "oh no you can't flip mirrors because the mirrors will end up hitting the tank when you turn".

What am I missing here?  Or has something fundamentally changed between pre and post 2014 models?

I'm on a 2013 mate, exact same sort of deal, but thats exactly how you do it. The way that those little tightening things work allow you to still make the mirrors nice and tight even on a an angle, so you're doing nothing wrong. Your mirrors will most likely bump your tank the first couple times, but it's just a matter of adjusting them until they don't. You can even loosen your bar clamp and angle your handle bars a little up or down to help.

I've done it on a 2014 Iron. It works fine and I can see more than before- you may need to adjust your brake/clutch lever angles.

Ok cool, so I'm not going crazy!

T1 - thanks for the offer. I am getting my V&H short shots and first service and dyno and some other blingy bits done this week (been hanging out for my pipes to arrive!) and will sort something out with you after that if that's ok.

Evil, your 2014 is no different to my 2010. Just loosen the Allen screw holding the blinkers in place and swing them inwards. Cover your tank wth a thick towel. Flip the mirrors, swapping them side to side. Check for clearance lock to lock (the towel will prevent any mishaps. If necessary, pivot the bars forward or back a bit to help with the tank clearance (mine had to pivot back a few degrees from memory). Overall it is dead easy and just a matter of taking your time.

If you want to go further, buy the torx caps from the 48 (about $5) to use to retain the flipped mirrors. This is not necessary but looks neater IMHO. I also ended up buying the blinker relocation kit (only $30) and moving the blinkers down onto the upper triple tree, in the same position as they are on a 48. Again, not necessary, but looks better to me.

If Peter Stevens give that sort of advice, I would not be letting them put air in my tyres.....TC

I'm a bit confused to be honest, as I have a 2014 48, and on mine, the turning indicators are mounted to the forks now, not the bars. That's how it comes stock.

    What model is this?

Anyone done the flip with the custom tank? The indicators put me off and the tank looks too wide to get lock to lock? I'm using drag bars, so not much room there.

Dont listen to the bike shops. They shit me sometimes the way they try to put you off modifying your bike. I thought it was part of owning a HD. lol

    An update!

Had to drop the bike into PS this morning as my V&H short shots finally arrived!  So today is service, short shots, dyno and new derby/timer cover (because a girl needs bling) day.  While I was booking in I said to the service guy (who was really nice so I thought I'd just ask and see what he said) "Can you guys flip my mirrors?" His response "yeah no worries!  Easy job!"  So they're doing them for me.

Only down side is I can't get hte bike back until Saturday morning - I'm hanging out to hear what she sounds like (and feel a little bit of increased performance maybe).

    She'll be so purdy.

Then off to PI for the Supers on Sunday!
