    Hi All,

As some of you are aware, I have my first Harley after a world of Jap crap.

One thing I am noticing is that the Iron has a late Clutch Take up, meaning the Clutch Lever is nearly fully out befote it's fully engaged.

    Is this the norm?

Pete, mine is the same. I have adjusted it to the factory specs a couple of times, but from the start the  friction point of the clutch is in the last few mm of lever movement. TC

instead of backing off 1/2 turn go 1 or even 1 1/2 turns and leave a little extra loose on the cable adjustment as well. This will bring it in closer.

The Dealer said that they did adjust the clutch on the 1st service, but still not convinced that it's right.
Down at the clutch end there is only 1/4 of a turn as the adjustment then about 2mm up at the bars.
I will have a play around to see if I can improve on that.

That is not the only adjustment. There is one also in behind the derby cover. If you are not sure on what you are doing leave it alone. Have somebody who knows do it for you.

i've got short fingers so i back mine off to 1 1/2 turns and leave a heap of slack in the cable, it release's about 5mm off the bar, and dosnt slip! if it was a problem my clutch should be dead as i drag race it like this....also note that if your spring plate is on its way out it maybe cause you adjustment issues...best to get it removed and replaced with a couple of clutch plates etc.

    Hey Gents,

Yea, the Factory Service Manual talks of a 1/4 turn down behind the Derby Cover, plus the Free-Play up top.
T1 & TC..... As I have a Factory Manual, if you ever need info or a section scanned, please don't hesitate to give me a hoy.
