Pope’s Harley-Davidson sells for 241,500 euros
A Harley-Davidson given to Pope Francis and bearing his signature has gone under the hammer in Paris for 241,500 euros.
The price at auction was almost 20 times its estimated value.
A hostel for the homeless in Rome will get the proceeds from the motorbike and a jacket presented to the pope by the famous brand last June to mark its 110th anniversary.
The Harley-Davidson leather jacket, also signed by the pope, went for 57,500 euros.
Anonymous bidders bought both, according to auction house Bonhams.
“It has to be a world record for a 21st century Harley-Davidson and certainly for a Harley-Davidson leather jacket,” said Ben Walker, head of motorcycles at Bonhams.
The motorbike had a pre-sale estimate of 12,000-15,000 euros.
