Anyone riding a late model RKC?

Hey guys, probably a stupid question but is there a special tool you can get for undoing the mounting studs inside the bags to remove them? At the moment I'm trying to shove a large flat head screw driver in there to twist them but its a royal pain in the ass.

    Thanks

I borrowed one 2 weeks ago as i am looking at upgrading to one in the next 12months or so. Did have a look inside & initial thought was maybe a coin could undo them?

Didnt try it as i only removed the screen to go for a ride & see what it was like.

    Cheers & good luck.

I'm going to try and get the streetglide ones that have a ring on the stud that you just twist and they come off in two seconds. Hopefully they will fit.

Depends what you consider late model?. My 09 King has the rings on the stud you are talking about.

Maybe yours are not the correct ones.
I looked back as far as 2002 and they all show the same one with the ring described as Ball Head Stud, I didn't check the part numbers but they all looked the same.

Couldn't imagine they'd be too expensive to replace with new ones, then again it is Harley...

It seems that the ring attached to the head was probably removed to 'prevent' theft... mine is an 09 FLHRC with all rings attached, hence your description of small holes in the head.

To reduce the chance of a 'quick' theft I simply replaced the forward captive bolts/screws.... with a stainless steel bolt, two large washers and a nylock nut, as said they are to prevent a quick theft and to ensure that the bags don't fall off the scoot, that said unlikely but possible!!!

    Food for thought.

Adam I was at the dealey today and looking at the late model tourers and asked the guy to remove one of the bags.
He had to use a 5 cent peace. I asked why the rings were missing and he said they don't come that way any more although the small holes for them are there.

Yeah I went to the dealer and got a set of mounting studs with the Drings on problem solved. Fuck knows why they don't come that way.
