Tried a few times to patch up the inner primary case to make it oil tight. Looks like the previous owner had hit something and cracked the cases, they have tried to weld it up and just cracked more.
So I thought, why not a belt drive and dry clutch, cant leak then and the chain was at its extreme adjustment so looked real good idea.
Brought a BDL belt drive for 1986 Softy, tapered shaft and keyway type.
But,,belt rubbes on inner case bolt section, no mention of having to relieve the case in instructions so wondering if anybody else has had experience in these matters
you have too get the grinder out , the inner pri is stuff anyways, vent the outer to let some air cool the belt & clutch etc, pre soak the clutch fibre's in ATF oil 1st & keep & eye on the drive tags in the clutch hub they come loose
Thanks Fellas, I'll give the grinder a go
So, off comes the inner primary cover for filing clearance.
Just thought I'd do a trial alignment check,,,,looks pretty good to me
Yes I know its not good OccHealth safety to wander around in bare feet,,,but what the hell its been hot today
Friday morning and 10 minutes work with angle grinder and a whack with a cold chisel and off comes the sleeve
So she is finally in place, will take her for a test ride weekend
