Rotor Shit it self

I put an SE Compensator Kit in my bike a couple of years ago.  Went for a ride a couple of weeks ago and noticed a slight vibration in the bike,  ( This was after I changed the clutch hub bearing).  Anyway I thought nothing of it at first, then when I gave it some in the higher revs the vibrations were really bad.  Well I dropped the primary tonight, to have a look at what might be the problem.  I was hoping something easy.  But alas it never is.  Anyway on first inspection everything looked ok. When I noticed magnetic crap inside the case, the first thing that came to my mind was the rotor has crapped itself inside the alternator.  And yep it has... As you can see from the photo.  There is minimal damage to the inner primary and case. A few scratches at most where some of the magnetic material has come between the rotor outer face and the case.

Anyone have any thoughts as to the cause?

Hopefully I will be able to just buy the Rotor on its own as the rest of the kit is good.  The Stator is fine no damage of any significance, which is a relief.  I cleaned it up and got the major bits of the magnets off as the rotor is non ferous....

    Hi Aj56
I will be following this thread with interest as mine (2003 Dyna FXD) is in the shop at this moment with the same issue. I didnt have the vibration issue but flat battery after riding so no charge. At least the new rotors have 1 continuous magnet, not individual bits stuck on, so unlikely parts will start falling off. How do you know the stator is fine?. Apparently mine is RS and awaiting a replacement from eastern states.

There is Minimal damage to the stator. I think I caught it in time before it completely crapped the stator. My bike is still charging fine. I wonder if one of the magnets came loose and that caused the issue.

My issue was the stator. Apparently Murphys Law and decided to fizz out. Repaired and back today so I hope that is the last time I have charging issues.

had a magnet come loose on my old bike and screw up stator as well aj,looks like a magnet has come loose, replace both parts you can get a rotor with enclosed magnets and end that problem, cheers
