Decided to replace the S&S "E" with a Mikuni, so whipped it off and on with the Mikki, only trouble was the choke cable was too short but a few minutes with a soldering iron and some spare throttle cable and had that sorted.

Made some studs to mount the aircleaner,

Some filing on the two mounting holes in backplate to get it lined up and she looks like it grew there.

Just had her dyno'd .The mixture was spot on through the rev range, all we had to do was 1/2 turn richer on the idle screw and lower the idle speed. Check out dyno sheet

Don't know if your aware or not, but as the Mikuni wears in it will develop a ticking/rattle on idle that is caused by the slide inside the carb. The older and more worn the carb is the louder the ticking/rattle. I have a well worn mikuni on my 1999 softy. When she is hot and idling sounds like a sewing machine. I originally thought the noise was from the heads or lifters, but after reading a post on here I realised it was the carby. An easy way to check is to take the air filter of when bike is warmed up and while running and put your finger on the slide inside the carby. The ticking/rattle will decrease as you push on the slide. This is the only problem I'm aware of with the Mikuni. Otherwise it is a good carby. You just have to get use to the ticking/rattle on idle.
