What do you think guys ... faulty tyre ... to high .. to low pressure ... one of my theroys is the camber of the roads up this way .. { Qld } .. can be pretty pronounced at times ... but i have never seen this type of blistering on a street tyre ... seen a few on race bikes where there is plenty of heat generated but i can assure you all i am no Casey Stoner .

Another theroy and maybe some can let me know if i am on the right track is the fact that the rear is a 200 section tyre and tends to have more of a contact pacth on that right camber side ... had just noticed the last week or so being a bit bumpy , wonder why , Lol ... bloody happy they didn`t let go coming home down the Toowoomba range yesterday on way back from swap meet .

The lumps go the entire way around the tyre ... the biggest about a inch and a half ... 40 mm ... most about a inch ... 11,500 Klm`s on the tyre , a original factory Dunlop ... 2008 Fxstc .

hard to tell from photo but it looks like you have gotten maximun use from tyre & the little tread left is blistering, 11500k is not great but I think average  depending on your riding style

Never have seen this before, maybe air pockets between layers of rubber. Heat expands the trapped air and caused the blisters. Absolutely a faulty tyre. I have seen tyres melt due to aqua planing, it generates tremendous heat but you have to be planing at a very high speed and a reasonable distance. Time for shoes, stay safe.

I would return it... I know it's used but there is no way a tyre should look like that.

Well , went and got the diseased tyre changed ... went with a Metzaler , will see how it compares , have had a 50 / 50 response from people regarding how good they are .

Tyre fitter reckons he has seen thousands like it ... first time for me that`s for sure ... he said I had let the tyre get to low in the tread dept. ... said I should have changed it about 2000 K`s sooner which meant it would have only got about 9,500 K`s ... not real flash mileage in my books , but will be interested to hear readers thoughts on their own mileage .

As well as letting it get low in the tread area , he reckons I was probably running to low with the air pressure ... I was running between 36 and 38 , which I thought was above the recommended ratings ... his theory is Harley tell their riders to do this for 2 reasons ... 1 , the lower pressure will give the rider a softer ride and 2 , the tyres will wear faster so people will be back in sooner to buy new tyres .

Not sure how much truth are in his statements but he has been in the bike tyre industry for quite a few years up here in the Logan area ... I did happen to ask another shop owner who`s opinion I trust and he told me how he got a Email from both Pirelli and Dunlop a couple of years back stating that they recommend he tell his customers of the Bigger variety of Harley`s that they should indeed run their tyres at a higher level , partly due to the weight of the bigger Harley`s .

So maybe there is something to it after all ... in case anyone is interested ... $320 Fitted ... Morgan & Wackers , surprisingly were cheaper at ... $300 , should have rung them first , Lol ... and no real surprise good old Gasoline wanted ... $445 ... arh NO THANKS .

6500kms from my fatbob but it was a tyre from a Vrod, not sure about compound. ran it at 40 and run my road glide at 40.
surprising some times what wackers charge

yeah I was taken aback when he told me $295 for tyre and $5 for fitting ... for me having a some what bad experience with Wackers back in the 80`s I thought maybe they have picked up their game since Gasoline came on the scene because they used to have the same type of reputation ... over pricing .

Got to give credit when it is due , they also did me a good deal a little while back when I had dramas with a broken antenna for my fob .
