Ok I don't have a Harley just yet I but will be heading down to Perth an a few months to have a look around.
I was thinking a Superglide might be the go or a Fatbob. I never thought I would be buying a Harley......ever, but after a few rides on my mates Harley's I'am now hooked. Oh well there goes my retirement plan after reading through the accessory catolouge.
I currently have a 1970 Honda CB750 Four, two Kawasaki GPZ 900's and a Kawasaki ZX9R, I'm quickly approaching 50 and the sports bikes are getting harder to live with on long runs.
Has anyone dealt with Perth HD and if so what were they like to deal with?
Thanks for looking and ride safe.
Mark.
Just bought my Street Bob from Perth HD. Tony is geat to deal with.
Had a few issues with getting parts due to be fitted for delivery, but that generally was the distributors fault. Finally got everything sorted after a couple of weeks.
First 1600k service quote from Perth HD is very steep at $415 but what alternatives do we have ? I think that is the going rate. Not going to Frasers in any case, based on my personal experiences there in 2002-2005 with my first Harley.
I would recommend Perth HD, myself.
Welcome Mark.
You will get a thumbs up from some people - and a thumbs down from others - in regards to different dealers.
Bought my first HD from them a few years ago - and all positive.
Bought the second one a while ago - and VERY negative.
Yes - there are some great people there - some have been named in a previous post here.
BUT !! When you buy a bike advertised as "checked over and ready to go" (THEIR terminology in ad ) - and . . . . .
* left footpeg falls off bike within 5 minutes of taking delivery (literally!! was still in front of shop )
* drive belt so loose that u could turn it over on itself
* engine oil as thin as water and black as tar
* primary oil thin, grey and full of metal
* primary chain so loose it was slapping into the casing (hence the metal content in oil)
* back wheel way out of alignment
* steering head bearings so loose that you couldn't even hold onto the bars with ONE hand
* clutch out of adjustment
* promised rejetting NOT done after stage 1 ("we haven't really got anyone here who does carby's - it's all EFI nowadays - go to XXXX in Vic Park and get yourself some jets and do it yourself !!" )
* probably more stuff I can't think of right now - getting all wound up right now just remembering
When I went back a week later for a "please explain" - I got a mouthfull of abuse. Was later apologised to I must admit .
I could write more - but wont. Protecting the innocent.
At the end of the day Mark - they are a business - car yards, real estate etc etc etc
The overheads in such a business (and others like them) are enormous - well over 20 people alone. If you think you are going to get a great deal (i.e. to your advantage) ????
I am happy for those that are happy with their experiences there - and apologise to the employees who do the "righty".
Me - I feel like I am walking through Harvey Norman when I go to ALL these dealers - sell, sell, sell / buy, buy, buy.
FWIW - buy private and keep the saved $ 5000+ for other goodies. I am sure that there will be people on this forum (here in WA) - that would know of a great buy ( bike with history! ), going somewhere.
Sorry for the rant - feel that if I didn't express my experiences I might be leading another sheep to slaughter.
cheers
George
Welcome Mark , good luck .
I bought my Tiger 800 from the local Albany boys.(When they were a Triumph dealer as well) Payed $650 for what amounted to an oil change.... hmmmm?? Like with any business it depends who you deal with at the door that can make or break a deal. Despite that issue they're a great bunch of guys that ship their HD's round the country. The only reason I didn't buy local cause they didn't have what I wanted ( wasn't quite ready for a NOS powered Nightrain)
Bought the Nightrain through a Brisbane dealer, sight unseen, paid over the net,(scary), great bunch of guys to deal with...awesome bike, and they also ship round the country. I went to pick the bike up and asked to buy other nik naks.... nup.... chucked them in for free....
to the forums lowfly.
Welcome mate
