Hey guys. Looking for some ideas. I stripped my tank about a month ago. I put about four coats of clearcoat on it, but it's already starting to rust up quite a bit. All surface corrosion at this point, so nothing eating through the metal.
I'm going to sand it back again this weekend. Any other products I can use to help delay the rusting process? Would an etch primer help?
Ideally I'd like to do it myself and not bring it to a shop.
Appreciate any help!
Different than prepsol. It's a rust converter/cleaner.
You can use prepsol after treating with Deoxidine.

If you are serious about doing it right, you need to have a talk to a pro paint supplier.
HOK make a special product - "Adhereto" , but it's not cheap.

You could use a very thin coat of grey etch primer, but it will be slightly translucent. But might look OK.
Another option might be clear powdercoat, but it's a bitch to remove if needed.
So I picked up some Septone Rust Cleaner (same as Deoxidine), and Wax/Degreaser on Saturday from Supercheap Auto. This is what I used: http://www.septone.com.au/detail.asp?item_cat=11&item_number=359&page_num=1
Sanded, cleaned, and applied the Septone to my air cleaner cover to start. Then four coats of clearcoat. All seems good so far. Will need to wait a bit to see if it still corrodes. If this works I'll do the same to the tank. Only problem is I think I inhaled too much clearcoat haha. Used a spray can. Man that stuff is toxic as hell. I've been coughing up crap with a tingly throat for over two days now. Should have worn a mask! Thanks for the pointers!
