Street Bob Front Kuryakyn Indicator relocate

Hi guys. Getting low western bars so decided to tidy up and move my front indicators with the Kuryakyn 49mm two-piece clamp kit. (Bout $75 ) Thought this info may be useful for others....

The Kuryakyn kit comes (annoyingly) with 5/16 x 3/4 inch button head socket screws but they are UNC/Coarse/18 tpi. The Harley front indicators have exactly the same bolt but it's fine thread, not coarse. (Even my delaer told me it was coarse but too many people had contradicted that on forums so I kept looking) It's not easy to find the same dimension screw with 24 tpi/UNF/Fine thread. I went to Covs fasteners and got 1 inch versions which I was going to cut down to 3/4 inch, but then found that Quick Fix in Mildura had the Harley part which was everything I needed so ordered a few of those among other things - Harley pn# 94446-95 They are 5/16 x 3/4 UNF/24TPI

Next  thing you need to do is order some terminal housings and terminal sockets from your HD dealer.

Pn # 73153-96BK and #73191-96. Buy a couple of spare socket terminals too cause unless you have the specific crimping tool, it's easy to bodge one or two. They are odd in the sense that they are a male housing but a female/socket terminal. I have read alot on forums about these Tyco/AMP connectors. They seem so simple but are quite difficult to get the terminals out of until you get the knack.

There are two waiting indicator plug connectors under the tank with all the other switch gear wires etc.... They are live and ready to go.The left indicator is white, the right is black. They also have a blue wire for running light which I didn't need.

    [/URL]

My brother is an auto-sparky so the rest I left in his hands. Note that the 2012 onwards Dynas have CAN BUS systems so the front indicators only run from the indicator housing to the CAN BUS slave in the switch gear, not all the way back down the handlebars My brother cut the wires to the indicators closer to the indicator itself, so that there was plenty of wire to re-attach later if required (Harley recommends cutting the wires at the switch gear grommet) Seal off and heat shrink the two cut wires on each side, and store the ends tucked away inside the switch gear.

You have to open up the indicators, prise out the reflector and start your run of new wires from indside the indicator body, shrink-wrapping them all the way. Run the wires back thorugh the frame/neck grommet. Crimp the new socket terminals onto the end, assemble inside the terminal housing and connect to the white and black plugs in the backbone of the frame.  I read somewhere you had to run the hazard lights for 10 seconds for the ECU to "learn" the new indicators so I did that.

The Kuryakyn clamps work ok with just a 5/16 spring washer between the clamp and indicator housing

    The finished product....

I'm thinking that now the indicator lenses are lower, and closer to the tank and black triple clamps, the orange stands out like dog's balls so will probably go with smoked front lenses to blend in better.

Hope this may help someone thinking of doing the same thing....

The thread in the rear is coarse, unlike the front.

They are 5/16-18 TPI (UNC). The 'fiche says so, anyway.
