FXDC handle bars on FXD

Has anyone fitted the handlebars from the late model Super Glide Custom (FXDC) onto the Super Glide (FXD) ?

The FXDC handle bars are similar to the FXD except a little wider.

Will the original cables/hoses/wiring reach ?

    Looking forward to your replies.

I replaced the stock bars on my 06 FXD about a month ago, with Ventura low style wide bars (HD03 model). I reckon they would be similar to the FXDC bars; they are about 2 inches wider each side than the stock ones were. I disconnected the wiring for the hand controls and indicators from the connectors under the tank, then routed them back through the new bars and had no trouble with length, there was still a bit to spare. You can just push any extra length in the wiring back into the frame where it exits in front of the tank.

Also gave me an opportunity to clean up the look of the wiring on the ignition side of the headstock, I redirected the two indicator wires back through the left side.

The stock throttle cables now hang  slightly lower than they were, but no probs with length. I have a braided front brake line & didn't have to worry about length for the new bars, but not sure if the factory hose/metal tubing setup would accomodate wider bars.

    hope this helps

    cheers

Thanks mate. What about you Darkash69; did you have to remove your tank to fit your mini ape bars ? Are any of your wires/cables tight when you turn the handle bars to full lock each way ?

Got my FXST handlebars last night. I think they'll be much better than the stock FXD bars. I'd like to fit them after Philip Island.

Can someone tell me what's involved in taking the tank off ?

The wiringn for the RH blinker and controls seems a bit tight as it is and I'll need to find some slack somewhere within the frame/under the tank.

Do I need an extra set of hands for this job ?

Well guys, did the swap to FXST bars on Saturday but Murphy's Law had to prevail. I was in two minds as to whether I should do the swap before the GP just in case something went wrong.

Everything went pretty well (despite that fact that I found out removing the tank was a waste of time anyway) until I went to bolt on the RHS hand controls, in  particular the brake lever assembly.

When I was fitting to main section of the brake lever assembly I didn't realise that you need to take care that the pointy tip of the internal section of the brake lever doesn't catch on the brake light switch.

What happened was the tip caught on the plastic nipple at the end of the plunger (the back of the nipple holds the small rubber boot in place) and as I was tightening up the lever assembly clamp the brake lever was pushing on the plunger sideways and moving it out of position. Eventually the pipple snapped off. I didn;t realise it at the time though. I did hear the snap and saw something fly off in the corner of my view, but did realise fully until I found the little nipple on the floor later on.

Mind you, this is approx 5pm Saturday night. F.......k!

This is when the reak fun began, fiuguring a way of reairing it in order to make the GP next day.

The solution, after unsuccessfully trying to superglue the nipple back on, is another story but in the end I managed and everything went well yesterday.

By the way, the FXST/FXDC bars are only approx 75mm wider than the stock FXD but what a difference in look, feel, and handling !
